Corre l'anno 2001 quando i Kreator danno alle stampe "Violent Revolution". La band lo pubblica dopo una serie di album sperimentali, che si allontanavano dal thrash allargando gli orizzonti musicali della band, ma di fronte a questo lavoro si capisce subito che Mille ha sterzato violentemente riportandosi in carreggiata. I quattro tedeschi tornano a far macello.
Solo la copertina è tutto un programma: dominata da un volto veramente devastato, ci riporta a dieci anni fa nella storia della band, a "Coma Of Souls" … ma il cd in questione è tutt'altro che stagionato. Nonostante il genere sia inequivocabilmente thrash il suono è pieno e più potente mai, ogni componente dà il meglio di se per spaccarci i timpani, i Kreator di "Violent Revolution" sono parecchio cresciuti dai tempi degli albori e danno alla luce canzoni strutturate e con melodie accattivanti.
Apre le danze "Reconquering The Throne" una canzone potentissima che corre tutto d'un fiato, si ferma solo un secondo per un assolo sospeso nel tempo che apre una rapida conclusione, si passa attraverso a "The Patriarch", breve strumentale che tiene alta la tensione, fino a una della canzoni più riuscite dell'album. "Violent Revolution" è più lenta della prima traccia ma risulta sicuramente più accattivante. Al centro del brano il ritmo cala e la voce desolata e immensa di Petrozza urla sopra le chitarre distorte, per poi improvvisamente rigaloppare i riff iniziali con un esplosione inaspettata e coinvolgente. A seguire troviamo "All Of The Same Blood" travolgente canzone che non abbassa il ritmo dell'album, un'ondata di violenza travolge l'ascoltatore quando al termine di ogni strofa fra le chitarre e la doppia cassa Mille grida "Legions forgotten by the gods" e tutto tace. Inizia piano e cresce senza troppe sorprese la quinta traccia, un brano forse un po' prevedibile che non guasta però l'insieme.
È fatto di un'altra pasta "Second Awakening"che colpisce chiunque(o almeno me)fin dal primo ascolto, dal ritornello orecchiabile e un ritmo incalzante non passa certo inosservata. Immenso anche l'effetto sulla voce che apre le prime due strofe, mette i brividi. "Ghetto War" è una canzone che trasmette desolazione e distruzione, è di sicuro il pezzo con più atmosfera dell'album. I Kreator ci hanno regalato un gioiellino del thrash e la prova più eglatante è l'intricata ottava traccia: si apre con un arpeggio carico di tristezza su cui canta con una voce calda il leader del gruppo finchè la musica non sfocia in un ritmo veloce e potente…tutto qui? No, dopo pochi secondi i teutonici decidono di spingere ancora l'acceleratore, il brano si rivela nella sua potenza, veloce e violento…rallenta solo un po' per urlarci "Die in pain, die in pain, live in fear and die in pain" per poi riprendere le redini della devastazione, mentre Mille ci ripete: "Is only a Replicas Of Life". Nel finale ritorna solo per poco l'arpeggio iniziale e ci rendiamo conto che otto minuti sono passati senza che noi ce ne accorgessimo. Questo pezzo a mio giudizio è uno dei punti più alti dell'album(non a caso la canzone preferita di Jürgen Reil, il batterista della formazione) che, però, non si ferma qui. La nona traccia delude chi si illudeva in una possibile sosta, "Slave Machinery" è pesante e da digerire tutta di un colpo. "Bitter Sweet Revenge" incomincia sulla falsariga della precedente per poi ribadire che in quest'album la velocità fa da padrona. Segue "Mind On Fire", un'altra canzone forse un po' scontata, dal ritornello orecchiabile e poco di più. A questo punto qualcosa ci fa rizzare l'orecchie e uno sputo di rabbia sfonda il nostro impianto, la stupenda "System Decay" irrompe rapida, una canzone memorabile che chiude nel miglior modo un album di puro thrash metal.
Questo cd è la prova che i Kreator sanno ancora spaccarci le ossa, e lo sanno fare meglio che mai… tutte le canzoni sono mosse dalla rabbia, ricca di violenza, ma anche di spunti nuovi e interessanti, a mio parere all'altezza del thrash anni Ottanta, che, almeno per i quattro metallari in questione, non è proprio morto.
