Chissà perché in molti si ostinano a sparare a zero su certi gruppi perché non ritenuti abbastanza gotici, e su altri perché ritenuti lontani anni luce dall'heavy metal. Trovandosi al cospetto di un gruppo come questo, qualcuno prenderebbe in causa il gothic metal. Peccato che in questo caso siamo di fronte a tutt'altro tipo di musica. Mi piacerebbe riuscire a far capire a molti ascoltatori dell'ultima ora che la presenza di una voce femminile non è sempre sinonimo dell'esistenza di un flavour gotico all'interno di un qualsiasi genere musicale riconducibile alla sfera del metal.
È questo il caso dei Lullacry, band finlandese che, reduce da un passato che ha del disastroso, nel 2003 subisce un cambio di line-up piuttosto importante per il sound proposto. La vocalist Tanja, che esordisce appunto con l'album "Crucify My Heart", con la sua impostazione vocale prettamente pop-rock, accompagna alla perfezione le trame musicali create dai quattro compagni di squadra, sempre pesanti e riconducibili ad un certo gothic-rock scandinavo (Him, The 69 Eyes, Sentenced) ma rimaneggiate con l'intenzione di creare un puro sound heavy metal che non sfigurerebbe tuttavia in alcuni palinsesti radiofonici o televisivi. I Lullacry riescono alla perfezione nell'intento prefissato senza però mai doversi abbassare a manovre pacchiane atte ad assicurarsi un facile successo da classifica, quali l'inserimento di patinate ballad intrise di melodie dalla dolcezza nauseabonda e gratuita.
Eccoci così di fronte ad una trascinante "Don't Touch The Flame", alla rock-oriented title-track, alla bella "Unchain", dove la band si propone come una versione femminile degli Him più ispirati (piccola concessione al gothic-rock tanto in voga in Finlandia), ad "Every Single Day", che richiama alla mente gli ultimi Flowing Tears (altra band per la quale varrebbe lo stesso discorso iniziale fatto in questa sede), i quali sono solo alcuni dei buoni episodi di questo platter, suggellato da una produzione accuratissima che non mette mai in risalto la voce, ma soprattutto gli strumenti. L'attenzione cala leggermente con le ultime tre tracce, poco eterogenee e meno accattivanti delle precedenti; ciononostante è veramente ottimo il lavoro svolto dai chitarristi, che non perdono un colpo per tutta la durata del disco regalandoci spesso coinvolgenti assoli. Anche il basso, a differenza di quanto spesso accade in ambito metal, non è mai relegato ad una posizione di sottofondo, anzi, in molti passaggi fa addirittura la parte del leone.
Un album potente e melodico, sicuramente commerciale ma senza molte pretese e senza punti deboli, composto unicamente da canzoni piacevoli all'ascolto ed adatte a una vasta gamma di contesti ed ascoltatori.
