Facciamo di nuovo un salto negli anni '80 stavolta parlando di un grande artista prematuramente scomparso nel 2005 ma mai dimenticato: Luther Vandross. Nel lontano 1982, dopo il successo dell'album d'esordio "Never Too Much" , l'artista newyorchese ritorna con un nuovo lavoro intitolato "Forever, For Always, For Love".
Nel disco troviamo brani festosi come "Bad Boy/Having A Party", che riprende il classico di Sam Cooke, e "You're The Sweetest One" mentre il meglio arriva da ballads come la cover del brano dei Temptations "Since I Lost My Baby" e la suggestiva title-track. Questi brani si fanno apprezzare per l'interpretazione intensa di Vandross e impeccabili arrangiamenti di archi e fiati.
Imperdibili anche la vellutata "Promise Me" e la gioiosa "She Loves Me Back".
Grazie al tocco magico del bassista Marcus Miller e del tastierista Nat Adderley jr. Luther ci regala un album di gran classe in cui troviamo anche coristi d'eccezione come Cissy Houston, Fonzi Thornton e Tawatha Agee.
Forever, For Always, For Love si inserisce nel cosiddetto filone "Quiet Storm" di cui faranno parte negli anni a venire anche artisti come Anita Baker e Will Downing fra i tanti. Il romanticismo per nulla scontato, il genio vocale di Vandross rendono il disco godibile all'ascolto e ci permette di riscoprire l'arte di questo artista indimenticabile.
