L'album che mi appresto a recensire e quello che per i Manowar (gruppo fondatosi nel 1982 a New York) fu l'album della discordia quello che fece vociferare su un calo compositivo della band. E per certi versi purtroppo....cosi fu!! L'album è globalmente buono non di più capiamoci... ma alterna continui alti e bassi ci sono pezzi perfetti come "Defender" "Carry On" "Black Wind Fire And Steel" e pezzi dal ritmo molto blando quali la commercialissima "Blow Your Speakers" dal quale fu tratto un video credo tra i piu tamarri della storia (ma i Manowar sono cosi che ci vuoi fare!), la brutta titletrack (ripetitiva fino allo svenimento pensate che Eric Adams il cantante dei Manowar, per chi non lo conoscesse, arriva a ripetere fino a 50 volte la parola "FIGHT"!!!
Insomma se questi erano pezzi banali e scontati figuratevi le inutili intro quali "Drums Of Doom" e "Master Of Revenge" in pratica da questa disastrosa doppietta salvo solo la sufficiente "Holy War" supportata da un geniale riff di basso iniziale dal gran bassista Joey De Maio. Ma passiamo a un analisi più approfondita tramite l'utilizzo del track by track: si parte con la titletrack "Fighting The World" che come ho già detto suona noiosa e ripetitiva e con un assolo tirato e poco convincente. Passiamo alla seconda track "Blow Your Speakers" canzone che io continuo a considerare (come scritto sopra) la canzone più commerciale dei Manowar che accompagnata stavolta da un assolo più convincente... e un gran lavoro di voce del grande Eric Adams... tutto questo non basta a salvare una canzone in sostanza banale.
Andando avanti troviamo "Carry On" a mio avviso la canzone più bella del disco a tratti struggente e commovente (fantastica l'intro di chitarra iniziale di Ross The Boss) qui tutti fanno un gran lavoro appare forse un po' in affanno Scott Columbus alla batteria, per il resto canzone epocale. Si prosegue con "Violence And Bloodsheed" canzone che prima non ho citato né tra i pezzi accettabili né tra i pezzi mediocri perchè merita un'analisi a parte.. io la definirei un "esperimento". Perchè e una canzone molto valida sul punto di vista compositivo (il testo della canzone infatti è una critica sulla guerra del Vietnam) ma poi si perde con un ritornello anche qui permettetemi la definizione "commerciale" ottime come sempre basso e parti vocali.
Dopo questo esperimento mancato si passa al secondo capolavoro del disco "Defender" (canzoni cosi i Manowar non ne scriveranno per parecchio tempo) e semplicemente perfetta. LA canzone inizia con una parte narrata da Orson Welles attore inglese degli anni 60 (credo) (purtroppo oggi scomparso) che presta la sua voce anche per la canzone "Manowar" in sede live. La voce dell'attore è cadenzata dagli arpeggi di chitarra acustica di Ross. Per quanto riguarda la seconda parte troviamo Eric che duetta con Orson mostrando a tutti le sue notevoli qualita vocali (da notare che la song era già stata scritta da tempo infatti doveva essere pubblicata sul loro primo lavoro "Battle Hymns" ma per motivi contrattuali non fu pubblicata) ma andiamo avanti. Sorvoliamo l'inutile "Drums Of Doom" che fa da intro alla discreta "Holy War" un'altra canzone "in pieno stile Manowar" infatti parla della guerra per il metal e che ogni buon metallaro deve considerare il metal la sua religione da portare fino alla morte!!!!! (che tamarri)!!!. Superata la tamarra song da me appena citata arriviamo seppur con fatica a "Master OF Revenge" seconda inutile intro del disco che fa da opener a una delle più belle canzoni dei Manowar "Black Wind Fire And Steel" che conclude "Il disco della discordia".
In conclusione possiamo dire che questo album non piacque ai fan proprio per il suo suono "commercialotto" e perchè non era come i precedenti capolavori (i Manowar si ripresero però l'anno dopo con la loro pietra miliare per eccellenza "Kings Of Metal"). Tornando su "Fighting The World" è effettivamente un disco per coloro che conosco buona parte del repertorio "Manowariano" ma che non sono fan "sfegatati" del gruppo perche in confronto ad altri capolavori sfigura molto! Io non sono un fan sfegatato del gruppo infatti il disco non mi ha convinto sin dal primo ascolto. Con questo saluto tutti!!! Ciao!

La canzone 'Defender' è emozionantissima e mai stanca di essere riascoltata nonostante i 6,01 minuti di durata.
