Che voi siate blackster o thrasher, amanti dell'Heavy o del Power, cultori del Death, del Glam o del Prog, se siete veramente metallari avrete di certo sentito almeno una volta il "richiamo della strada".
Quello spirito fatto di polvere e sudore, di asfalto e Harley, di donne e birra si è fatto musica in "Louder Than Hell".
Il possente basso di De Maio apre "Return Of The Warlord", prepotente e bellissima nella sua semplicità, in cui il rombo dei motori si fonde a quello delle chitarre. Una canzone che grida "one more beer and Heavy Metal, and I'm just fine!".
Ma per quanto bella è comunque soltanto un'introduzione all'immortale capolavoro "Brothers Of Metal": un altissimo scream precede una voce rabbiosa, scandita da un basso arrogante, in una strofa che sale d'intensità ogni momento di più, fino ad arrivare al coro, rozzo e crudo, nella migliore tradizione Heavy, che urla: "Brothers Of Metal!".
Un ritornello esaltante, furioso, imperversa in mezzo minuto di totale libertà, per poi esaurirsi improvvisamente e lasciare posto ad un breve intermezzo che inneggia alla fratellanza fra metallari. Il coro esplode nuovamente accompagnando il ritornello, seguito da uno scream che si sovrappone superbamente ad un velocissimo assolo di chitarra. La strofa seguente è tirata, rabbiosa... i ritornelli si susseguono nel bellissimo finale a sfumare.
La terza traccia, "The Gods Made Heavy Metal" è più melodica delle altre, ma ugualmente coinvolgente, grazie ad un sapiente dosaggio di potenza strumentale e voce. Al quarto posto una delle sei più belle ballad mai scritte dai Manowar: per la serie "anche i metallari piangono" ecco a voi "Courage". Uno sfondo pianistico, una voce morbida e melodiosa, un assolo stile "on the road" che si fondono in una canzone meravigliosa.
La traccia successiva è semplice, ma di grande impatto: "Number One". Una prestazione vocale straordinaria, non tanto per la qualità, quanto per la sua capacità di infiammare gli animi, incitandoli a sfidare il mondo. Splendido il lavoro chitarristico, che si fregia di un Karl Logan particolarmente ispirato.
"Outlaw" è forse il track più sostenuto insieme a "The Power", ma sebbene entrambe siano un po' ripetitive l'ultima manca totalmente di fantasia, ed è forse l'unica nota dolente dell'album.
Magnifiche invece le due strumentali "My Spirit Lives On" e "Today Is A Good Day To Die". De Maio fa miracoli, consacrandosi fra i più capaci bassisti della scena musicale mondiale.
Leggermente fuori tema nel contesto, ma non per questo meno affascinante è "King". Un inizio epico, sognante, si schianta contro un assolo di chitarra, mentre la voce cambia riassumendo la solita tonalità aggressiva. Il ritornello è cantato da un coro simile a quello dell'opener e le strofe, quasi parlate, sono inframmezzate da spunti che riportano all'apertura della traccia.
Un'opera universale, che non può non essere apprezzata da chiunque ami il Metal.

L'album inizia alla grandissima con il trio Return Of The Warlord-Brothers Of Metal-The Gods Made Heavy Metal.
Today Is A Good Day to Die è uno strumentale di quasi 10 minuti... che invece risultano solo pallosi e ripetitivi.
