Primo album di successo per la giovane rocker americana, per molti l'album del debutto di Michelle Branch. Contiene la Hit più famosa, "Everywhere", forse la canzone più rock dell'album, nota in Italia per una famosa pubblicità di una nota compagnia telefonica, orecchiabile e ritmata al punto giusto. Vuole forse sembrare un'artista già navigata la ragazza, nelle foto dell'album e nei racconti del suo sito, raccontando una passione precoce per la musica, con i primi pezzi scritti già quando era bambina; sicuramente il genere ricercato è il rock commerciale, ma alcuni pezzi denotano svolte decisamente pop, con liriche della medesima impronta per tutti i brani, e a volte la voce può sembrare troppo infantile, ma certe note sono raggiunte ottimamente e soprattutto in armonia fra loro. Se le suona e se le canta, la nuova Alanis Morrisette, come profetizzato da alcuni giornalisti suoi conterranei, dimostrando un certo talento anche a suonare la chitarra, a cui sembra tenere molto. Altro singolo "All You Wanted", un piccolo successo con un discreto arpeggio ben sistemato, ma nell'insieme niente di così emozionante. Si fa ascoltare, ma a tratti ne esce una normale immaturità, anche nei testi, però è costante la ricerca del sound.
I pezzi, undici per quarantatre minuti, variano da lenti e tristi a più ritmati e allegri, a denotare lo spiccato orientamento commerciale che prende l'artista, plasmata secondo le esigenze di mercato da manager e produttori, mentre nell'aria si avverte una voglia di alternatività, celata fra le righe e gli accordi ma mai esplicitata. "Goodbye To You" è apparsa in versione acustica nella colonna sonora del telefilm "Buffy", ed è un altro brano accettabile, seguito da "If Only She Knew" e "I'd Rather Be In Love", canzoni quasi rock qualitativamente buone, mentre fra le ballate "Here With Me", "Sweet Misery" trovano posto nell'insieme ma non successo come singoli, meglio "Drop In The Ocean". Molte della canzoni presenti in questo album esistono in versione acustica live, discretamente eseguite dalla cantante, sola con una chitarra, che dimostra di saper maneggiare bene anche dal vivo, non lasciandoci delusi.
Vuole creare un nuovo genere di personaggio, una sorta di "Bad Girl" del pop, con questo disco che esce nel 2001, in un periodo che precede l'avvento di un'altra stella nascente del rock, Avril Lavigne, che scalzerà Michelle dalle classifiche, non all'altezza forse perché troppo poco appariscente rispetto all'amica canadese. Circola infatti in rete un video in cui durante un intervista è proprio Michelle a presentare alle telecamere Avril, che sarà la vera "Bad Girl". Miracoli (o stranezze) dello show business; rimarrà comunque in memoria "Everywhere", che difficilmente sarà accostata all'immagine dell'autrice.
Elettroniche, sintetizzatori, pianoforti e violini in sfondo, ma anche parti pure di chitarra, con la particolarità di quella voce originale, "sua", incuriosiscono l'ascoltatore, ma forse avere diciotto anni non porta a Michelle la credibilità voluta e non meritata. Ci lascia in attesa di un nuovo lavoro per capire se ne vale la pena.
