Questo è il sesto album in studio dei Millencolin, band di Orebro, Svezia capitanata dal frontman Nicola Sarkevic, che vede il ritorno sulle scene del combo a distanza di tre anni dall' ultimo "Home from home".
"Kingwood" (il cui nome è una storpiatura della famosa marca di stereo kenwood è stato dato dal cantante in onore del suo vecchio hi-fi a cui è molto legato!), è sicuramente più orientato verso il punk che non il suo predecessore che andava verso sonorità più rockeggianti. Sulla copertina del cd troviamo Nikola con le corna da cervo e gli altri membri vestiti da cacciatori, bensì non per attaccarlo ma per proteggerlo, infatti il gruppo è sempre stato contro la caccia.
Ora passiamo sotto la lente di ingrandimento i contenuti del disco. La partenza è affidata a "Farewell my hell" che ricalca il classico stile della band, pezzo punk rock con una buona dose di melodia e velocità. Buona pure la successiva Birdie che prosegue il discorso intrapreso dalla prima canzone. Un discorso a sé meritano invece le successive "Shut you out", "My name is golden" e "Simple twist of hate" in quanto sono quelle che più variano il sound all'interno dell'album. "Shut you out" che è anche il secondo singolo tende verso l'emo-rock e vede inserimento del piano come intro e prima dei ritornelli, potrebbe essere considerata come la ballata del disco, forse l'unica leggermente sotto gli standard rispetto agli altri undici pezzi. Mentre "My name is golden" è sicuramente orientata verso suoni rock ed è caratterizzata dal simpatico assolo. Ma la vera sorpresa del disco è sicuramente data dalla furia hardcore di "Simple Twist of Hate", voce molto stridula e chitarre taglienti come non mai.
Ma è con la successiva "Biftek supernova" che la band si supera, brano molto corto ma potente dal ritmo forsennato che ti mette una carica pazzesca , la perla del disco. Proseguendo troviamo altre canzoni che si mantengono su un punk rock molto buono vedi "Cash or clash", "Novo", "Stalemate", "Mooseman's jukebox". Il disco si chiude con "Hard time", che parte con un assolo di batteria e si chiude in modo originale con le chitarre che alzano il volume in modo progressivo coprendo fino a farla scomparire la bella voce del cantante.Un ultima notazione per quanto riguarda il singolo di lancio, stavolta trattasi di "Ray", canzone molto orecchiabile e gradevole. In generale le canzoni acquistano quel tocco in più dato dalla bella voce espressiva ed energica del frontman, niente a che vedere con certe vocine troppo melense nello stesso panorama. Per concludere un ottimo album che piacerà soprattutto ai fan della band e agli amanti del punk/rock in genere.
