2005: L'importante Century Media mette sotto contratto gli svedesi black metallers Naglfar che, dopo quello che hanno fatto vedere di buono con 3 album, arrivano così al loro quarto full-lenght quale "Pariah".
I Nostri, orfani del precedente singer Jens Ryden, trasferito per motivi di studio a Stoccolma, sono stati subito affiancati ad un'altra figura di spicco nell'ambito black metal svedese, sto parlando del bassista Kristoffer Olivius, già leader dei connazionali Setherial. La perdita del fondatore avvolte è dura ma i 3 restanti non si sono dati per vinti, mantenendo le ottime capacità della band. Bando alle ciance, passiamo al Cd.
L'intro "Proclamation" apre, "your flesh is now ours" recita Kristoffer. 40 sec. circa e si passa alla violentissima "A Swarm of Plagues": riffing incessanti e lavoro di tamburi e cassa mastodontici, inoltre si capisce da queste prime battute che il basso e la voce di Kristoffer (quasi identica a quella di Jens) non faranno rimpiangere quest'ultimo. Buono lo stacco di tastiera durante i primi minuti di furia svedese. "Spoken Words of Venom" l'infernale canzone: riff di chiara brillantezza black metal unita a ritmi ultra veloci di batteria, Kristoffer fa il resto. Il testo colpisce molto per la sua negatività, "My eyes are the mirrors that reflects your death [...] "The ground that you walk is the ground where you'll die". Con le prossime "The Murder Manifesto", "Revelations Carved in Flesh" e "None Shall Be Spared" non sono presenti molti spunti di personalità, ma la qualità di composizione resta comunque alta. Si passa poi ai prossimi (bellissimi) 2 pezzi: "And The World Shall Be Your Grave", riff pazzeschi, voce diabolica, basso quasi inesistente e la veloce batteria, ottima anche se non osa strafare.
"The Perpetual Horrors" il pezzo più originale del cd, su cui è stato girato anche un ottimo video. I Nostri oltre che il suono Naglfariano osano mischiarsi anche con melodie trash. Chiude "Carnal Scorn & Spiritual Malice" episodio più ricercato, in cui sono percepibili le disarticolazione dei tanto cari Borknagar. In conclusione, "Pariah" non raggiungerà i primi 2 lavori "Diabolical" e "Vittra", ma è un buon album, anche perchè sono state aggiunte le novità di inserti tastieristici e lo sfiorare melodie thrash, cosa che mancava nella discografia dei 4.
