È sera. Stanco e stressato mi metto alla ricerca di un CD che possa accompagnarmi nel sonno seguendo le sfumature del mio scorrere, senza distorsioni e senza troppi slanci solitari... Mi capita tra le mani "7 Worlds Collide" di Neil Finn e penso che non lo ascolto da troppo tempo. Play. Siamo ad Auckland, in un teatro dall'atmosfera calda e stiamo per assistere ad un concerto nel quale Neil Finn, artista della Nuova Zelanda, ci presenterà alcuni amici... forse ben più noti di lui, ma non importa!
Si parte con "Anytime" accompagnati dalla presenza di Ed O'Brien, Johnny Marr & Lisa Germano. Un riff di chitarra e le luci si accendono, le valvole degli amplificatori iniziano a scaldarsi diventando rossastre, le note fluiscono leggere. Timide. Pronti via e sul palco, con la traccia numero due, sale uno dei personaggi più carismatici dell'america musicale: Eddie Vedder. La voce inconfondibile dei Pearl Jam é la prima linfa vitale del disco, la prima scossa, il primo lampo in questo cielo serenamente rock. Vedder sale sul palco, illumina la scena e torna a nascondersi tra le quinte dando ancora spazio, ancora una volta, ai primi ospiti della serata. Torna l'acustica e si snocciolano così altri 6 brani, leggeri, mistici ma incisivi. Con "Angels Heap" e "Edible Flowers" é la volta di TIm, fratello di Neil e l'atmosfera diventa familiare, il pubblico applaude, la chitarra prima ed il piano poi, accarezzano ed accompagniano le loro voci, unite sin dalle prime note. Inizio a rilassarmi anch'io. Luci blu. Dense. Malinconia all'orizzonte. Con la traccia 11 torna la voce caldissima di Vedder sul palco e l'album, forse, raggiunge il suo apice. "Stuff And Nonsense" é una storia sussurrata ed infinita, interrotta solo dalle distorsioni di "I see Red" suonata con un'energia incredibile dallo stesso Vedder e da Tim Fill. Ancora rock leggero, a tratti poppeggiante, ed é il turno di Lisa Germano. "She Will Have Her Way"...
Che "7 Worlds collide" sia un altalena di emozioni e suoni lo si é capito dall'inizio ed ecco quindi ritornare Vedder che, con il fratello di Neil, Tim, rispolvera la sempreverde "Parting Ways". C'é spazio per tutti, per l'ukulele e la viola di "Paradise" e per il grande finale, sempre acustico, con "Don't dream it's over". Questo "7 worlds collide" non é di certo l'album della mia vita ma forse servirà per far uscire dai confini della Nuova Zelanda (e dell'anonimato) il buon talento di Neil Finn e dei suoi amici indiscussi. Ora posso dormire, il mio scorrere ha trovato un compagno di viaggio. La musica. Immortale come sempre.
