Ero lì che giravo in quel negozio di musica, e cercavo un album da riportare a casa, come ricordo del viaggio. Guardavo nella sezione rock e c'erano tantissimi dischi, famosi, molto conosciuti, però già avevo quei cd. Guardai anche dei vinili messi in fondo al negozio, ma niente, non c'era niente che mi interessava davvero.
Ad un certo punto andai verso la sezione metal hard - rock. Devo dire che c'erano un mare di dischi interessanti. Andavano dal power - metal al prog - metal fino all'heavy - metal. Ma anche lì quasi tutti i dischi li avevo. Fino a quando alzai lo sguardo e vidi "Oceanborn", dei Nightwish, un disco che avevo cercato per lungo tempo e non avevo mai trovato. Non ci pensai due volte e lo acquistai. Di questa band avevo sentito parlare molto bene.
I Nightwish sono un gruppo power - metal symphonic - metal finlandese fondato nel 1996. Lo stile musicale della band è descritto come epic - metal e opera - metal. La band si formò ufficialmente nel 1996 in Finlandia, precisamente a Kitee. Il nome del gruppo, che significa "Desiderio Notturno", venne tratto da una delle canzoni del loro primo demo. Gran parte del successo che la band ha ottenuto nel corso degli anni è da attribuire principalmente alla splendida voce di Tarja Turunen, una studentessa di canto d'opera in Germania, e in precedenza all' Accademia Sibelius in Finlandia. Anche i musicisti che formano la band sono molto validi, infatti si nota nei pezzi strumentali che vengono eseguiti con grande padronanza dello strumento.
"Oceanborn" è il loro secondo album. Per il gruppo è stato il disco della consacrazione a livello mondiale. Molto bella è la copertina, con in primo piano un gufo che porta un messaggio, e un occhio con la terra al posto della pupilla che guarda una donna in acqua, che galleggia. In lontananza sulla destra si intravedono due pianeti, a simboleggiare che ci troviamo in un mondo fantastico.
L'album inizia in maniera molto veloce con "Stargazers" che è caratterizzata da un intro di batteria, chitarra e tastiera. Il tutto per preparare l'ingresso nel brano della voce di Tarja. "Gethsemane" vede ancora un grande uso delle tastiere. In questo caso la voce di Tarja è molto più riflessiva e usata in un tono più lento. Anche qui gli strumenti cercano di supportare al meglio la voce di Tarja, vera trascinatrice della band. La terza traccia "Devil And The Dark Deep Ocean" è caratterizzata da un dialogo tra Tarja che interpreta l'Oceano e il chitarrista della band Empuu che interpreta il Diavolo. Un brano con chitarra e batteria molto più dure delle canzoni precedenti. "Swanheart" è il brano più bello del disco, con la voce di Tarja inizialmente lasciata sola dagli altri strumenti libera di esprimersi in tutta la sua bellezza. Una canzone dolcissima e con un andamento molto lento. Davvero stupenda. "Moondance" è un pezzo strumentale che ricorda una danza russa. Molto particolare l'andamento della canzone. "The Riddler" è un brano unico, in tipico stile Nightwish. Caratterizzata da grandi partiture orchestrali eseguite dalle tastiere. L'andamento del brano ricorda le note della "Storia Infinita". Tra i brani più belli del disco. In "Pharao Sails To Orion"' viene ripetuto il duetto della terza traccia. Si capisce come il contrasto tra la voce di Tarja e una voce più bassa sono un punto forte della band.
Questo disco è davvero unico, grazie soprattutto alla voce di Tarja, una delle più belle in ambito metal. Capace di raggiungere armonie vocali impressionanti. Il sound del disco è davvero particolare, e offre momenti molto belli per quanto riguarda la melodia. Infatti la musica dei Nightwish è un metal melodico e intimo. Un genere che loro rappresentano al meglio. La band nel corso degli anni è sempre riuscita a mantenere uno stile personale che ha saputo migliorare nel tempo, sempre mettendo in risalto la splendida voce di Tarja.

La cantante è figa cosa me ne frega del disco, vado in bagno a spararmi una sega.
