“Sliver”, estemporanea riduzione ad un cd del precedente box a quattro dischi (3cd e un dvd) “With the lights out”, aggiunge poco, quasi nulla di nuovo all’universo Nirvana.
Le tre tracce inedite sono destinate ai veri fans di vecchia data della band. Chi ama i Nirvana veramente, chi apprezza e conosce a fondo la loro musica sin dalle origini, deve avere questa nuova raccolta.
All’ascoltatore medio non potrebbe piacere poiché risulterebbe un mero business del mercato del disco; l’ascoltatore normale, anzi, resterebbe, a mio avviso, deluso dalla qualità a volte scadente (seppur ritoccata con l’ausilio delle tecniche digitali) dei demo e delle jam sessions casalinghe registrate da Cobain e soci.
Sicuramente questo disco è destinato a chi conosce i Nirvana non solo per i singoli di grido, o per l’indimenticabile Mtv Unplugged. La traccia di spicco del disco, e forse l’unica rarità che si può trovare, è il demo di “Come as you are”, in cui già si possono scorgere quelli che saranno i suoni della versione pubblicata su “Nevermind”. Interessanti i brani in versione acustica cantati dal solo Cobain “Opinion”, “Clean up before she comes” e “Do, re, mi”.
In conclusione, va detto che la rarità più grande del cd è forse la copertina, che raffigura un insieme di vecchie cassette… quelle dalle quali è stato estrapolato il box e ora questa raccolta. Voluta, pare, dall’adolescente Frances Bean, nel titolo richiama il famoso singolo in cui compare proprio la piccola Frances.
Resta da chiedersi, domanda lecita, se i nastri raffigurati in copertina abbiano detto davvero tutto…
