“Game over” segna il debutto della metal band newyorkese, formata da Danny Lilker (ex Anthrax). Presenti al “No mercy festival 2003”, i Nuclear Assault in principio erano composti da Connely, vocals e chitarra, Bramante, chitarra, Evans, drums e dall’ ex bassista degli Antharx.
Uscito nel 1986, l’album segue le influenze hardcore, mischiandole con un metal indubbiamente thrash. Il sound del disco è vorticosamente grezzo! Adrenalina pura viene emessa in tutte le song, dedite a far pogare chiunque! La carica ricorda quella di “Kill’em all”, con una produzione abbastanza simile al potente debutto di Hetfield e co.
Proprio la produzione guasta un po’ questo grande disco thrash metal, ma ad un disco di 17 anni fa non si può chiedere di più. I Nuclear assault suonano in modo impeccabile, rendendo l’ascolto abbastanza di “facile vedute”. Le varie influenze HC, offrono spunti interessanti come dei “versacci” demenziali qua e là e parecchi ritmi molto “simpatici”. La maggior parte dei ritornelli vengono cantanti in coro, in puro stile punk (ma di quello cazzone cazzone.. ), mentre molto spesso nelle traccie, sfrecciano assoli veloci e creativi, con sotto una base ritmica sfolgorante.
L’intro strumentale è un vero terremoto, che presenta in maniera perfetta il disco. La seconda canzone, “Sin”, è suonata in pieno stile Motorhead, con un sound sempre feroce. John Connely, con una voce “sporca” e rauca, partecipa con Anthony Bramante alla creazione di riff e assoli molto taglienti. La prestazione di Lilker è ottima, che sulle corde del suo basso cavalca nel vero senso della parola. Prorompente la batteria di Gleen Evans, che perfora in modo completo e continuo il suono.
Chicca dell’album è sicuramente “After the holocaust”, episodio che parte piano per poi ascendere in pura follia. Massacranti anche “Betrayal” e “My America”, entrambe con una base ritmica fenomenale. Scioltosi nel 1993 dopo l’album “Something Wicked”, per le varie crepe formatesi nel rapporto fra i componenti che portarono cambiamenti nella line-up, i Nuclear assault sono tornati ad inizio 2002 con la vecchia formazione a fare concerti e a partecipare a vari festival. Ora hanno in programma per il 2003/2004 l’uscita di un nuovo album.
