La cosa migliore di questo disco è che (miracolo!), ogni tanto si riesce a capire qualche parola di quello che Nick Holmes, il cantante, sta grugnendo (pardon, cantando!). Per un disco di Death Metal è una specie di record, credo! E a quanto pare i Paradise Lost vogliono smettere di essere considerati un gruppo Death.
Così, che hanno pensato bene? Pur rimanendo parecchio rumorosi e sferraglianti, hanno inserito degli assoli, tenendo ogni tanto le tipiche chitarre scordate "a la" Napalm Death sullo sfondo, e tentando (i temerari) di suonare sul serio! Poi ci sono le tastiere, alcuni coretti con delle ragazze (!) e altri effettucci.
Il risultato? Una pizza! Magari i Paradise Lost saranno più grati alle orecchie di vostra madre quando li suonerete ad un volume assordante, ma questo non significa che questo disco sia memorabile, anzi. E' solo un disco di musica lenta, noiosa e in ultima analisi anche poco originale.
Il bello del Death Metal è la sua filosofia, il suo voler essere sempre è assolutamente estremo ad ogni costo. Perchè rovinare tutto, accidenti!!! Lasciate la "melodia" (per così dire) agli Iron Maiden, sono loro gli specialisti nel campo! Due.

Come i Death del compianto Chuck Shuldiner... i Paradise Lost hanno sintetizzato un intero modo di concepire la musica Metal con un disco ormai leggenda.
La title-track è un manifesto: growling terrificante, chitarre cupissime e un'orchestra che crea un'impalcatura maestosa, raffinata e inquietante.
