Cattiveria e melodia si mescolano in questo bellissimo "Red Hot And Heavy", disco d'esordio dei Pretty Maids, gruppo danese semisconosciuto e non valorizzato giustamente dalla critica e dagli utenti di DeBaser (non c'è nessuna recensione sul server della band in questione).
La provenienza di questo gruppo fa pensare a molti probabilmente ad una proposta viking o black metal, ma in realtà non è così: i Pretty Maids propongono infatti un sound che è via di mezzo tra il classico heavy metal e l'hard rock. I riff di chitarra e l'accompagnamento di batteria sono veloci e coinvolgenti e i musicisti dimostrano buone doti tecniche. Il cantante Ronnie Atkins possiede un timbro vocale versatile: molto potente e aggressivo ma anche melodico nei cori delle varie canzoni o in alcune tracce meno aggressive come "Waitin' For The Time", canzone quasi hair metal e sicuramente non di facile interpretazione, ma ottimamente riuscita. Nessun pezzo oltre alla traccia già citata è noioso e scontato, quelli che preferisco sono questi: "Back To Back" la traccia di apertura, introdotta da un breve spezzone dei Carmina Burana che è secondo me è la mia migliore traccia del disco; la title-track, song aggressiva che segue lo stile della precedente, poi anche "Cold Killer", "Night Danger" e "A Place In The Night". Il disco è concuso da "Little Darling", cover dei Thin Lizzy, quì presentata in una versione più dura, e credo migliore, dell'originale.
Per quel che mi riguarda l'album non merita le cinque stelle per la sua breve durata (36 minuti) e perché tutto sommato non è un capolavoro, ma lo consiglio comunque a tutti, merita, non contiene tracce non riuscite ed è sicuramente al livello di altri classici del metal valutati tra i migliori.
