Il loro modo di fare metal li ha proiettati fin da subito sul (piccolo) palcoscenico della Danimarca, al fianco di band quali Wuthering Heights e Manticora. Per molti l'ennesima band power/heavy dai risvolti scontati, per altri un buon gruppo di moderno metal. I riferimenti più ovvi per il tipo di sound proposto sono quelli di band come Iced Earth e Demons & Wizards.
Sostanziali passi in avanti rispetto al debutto del 2004 "Melancholy beast" non sono stati fatti, anche se qualche spunto positivo in più c'è. L'aggiunta di una seconda chitarra, governata dalle dita di Toke Skjonnemand ha reso l'intero platter sicuramente più vario rispetto alle tonalità stantie del primo disco. Con questo innesto si guadagna in melodia ma soprattutto nella varietà delle composizioni, ora più corpose ed incisive. Ne sono esempi le due splendide "The birth" e "What lies beyond" incastonate a meraviglia tra heavy e power e tagliate continuamente da riff semplici quanto moderni (fondamentale l'ottima resa della registrazione). Inoltre la voce di Lance King contribuisce alla buona riuscita dell'album (al contrario di quanto succede con gli americani Avian). L'album prosegue su questa falsariga con "Ancient words within" e "Souls in pain", mentre "She who summoned me" ci mostra il lato più melodico e struggente della band, che da vita ad una ballata. Niente di spettacolare, ma sono tutti pezzi che si lasciano ascoltare. Ulteriore conferma delle qualità del gruppo arriva dall'highlight "The bone carver", heavy nel suo andamento e condita da un ottimo refrain.
Quando sembra che sia arrivato il meglio del disco arriva invece l'autolesionismo puro: "Bring back life" è una song tralasciabile ma nulla in confronto a "Blood red skies", pezzo interamente parlato e quantomai fuoriluogo, insulso e con l'aggravante di aver spezzato in due l'andamento del cd. La conclusiva "Tears of hate" non aggiunge nulla di nuovo e termina anch'essa con una parte "recitata" che risulta inutile, quasi in contrasto con quanto di positivo si trova nelle canzoni precedenti.
Ed ecco quindi che il secondo lavoro dei Pyramaze contribuisce ad alimentare l'amarezza per una band che ha delle frecce ben incoccate ma che puntualmente partono male, non colpendo il segno. Legend of the bone carver (siamo nel 2006) è l'ulteriore riprova che le qualità ci sono ma vengono mal sfruttate. Per gli amanti del genere invece 50 minuti di buona musica.
