Uscire di casa spettinati e con la prima maglietta che capita, senza troppi fronzoli, velocemente senza perdere l'attimo.

Urlare nelle orecchie di chi, distratto non se lo aspettava. Lasciare il segno per sempre, lasciare intuire che non si può stare comodi e spensierati crogiolandosi all'idea di un mondo silente e perfetto. Anche questo era lo spirito del Punk alla sua nascita. Bisognava fare in fretta, prima che tutto sparisse per essere tramandato alla storia. Urgenza, frenesia, era questo l'impatto storico di ciò che accadeva, veloce come le canzoni che lo rappresentavano, fulminee nei loro pochi minuti di durata.

E' seguendo questa linea che il secondo album dei Ramones è venuto alla luce, in tutta rapidità, assestando un altro colpo all'interno della loro geniale carriera: "Leave Home", che segue dopo pochi mesi il debut album diventando fin da subito un classico.
Il disco contiene alcuni tra i loro cavalli di battaglia di sempre, oltre a portare con se lo spirito ribelle del Punk nella discussa canzone "Carbona Not Glue", in cui i Ramones ironizzavano sul fatto che sniffare Carbona fosse molto più "intrigante" che sniffare le comune colla. Questa canzone è presente solo nelle primissime stampe dell'album e subito dopo tolta perchè come la precedente "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue" poteva istigare all'uso della colla come stupefacente, ma principalmente perchè Carbona era in realtà un marchio registrato (un liquido per pulizie), e quindi per evitare possibili grane legali. Le stampe successive prevedono al suo posto "Baby Sitter" per gli album destinati al mercato europeo e da "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker" per gli album destinati al mercato statunitense e al resto del mondo, anche se recentemente una ristampa comprensiva di bonus tracks prevede la canzone originale al suo posto, dato che ormai, con quello che si sente in giro, non fa più scandalo.

Sebbene la storia dei Ramones si sia protratta più a lungo di quella del movimento Punk vero e proprio, e sebbene alcuni critici li ritengono un attimo più distanti dai canoni espressi da altre bands (i Sex Pistols per esempio), i quatto fratelli hanno senza dubbio aperto le porte di un mondo tutto da scoprire, anche grazie a lavori come questo.
I picchi si raggiungono con le storiche "Pinhead" e "Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment", sicuramente le canzoni più famose e rappresentative oltre alla già citata "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker", veri e propri pilastri della Ramones-carriera. Ma anche pezzi più spensierati tipo "Swallow My Pride" e "I Remember You" sono spesso presenti nelle innumerevoli raccolte e greatest hits più o meno ufficiali che si trovano in giro.
Rispetto al primo album, questo ha un carattere più energico fondendo anche elementi più propriamente pop ("Oh, Oh, I Love Her So") ma a causa della scarsa produzione, il peso complessivo dell'opera sta più nelle intenzioni che nella sostanza, tesi questa, che è stata dimostrata negli anni a seguire (circa una ventina) dal fatto gli stessi pezzi riproposti dal vivo (sempre presenti) hanno un energia molto più dirompente.

In definitiva, si tratta di una delle colonne portanti della storia di questo gruppo e senza dubbio di un intero genere, insieme a "Ramones", "Rocket To Russia" e "Road To Ruin", dimostrando che i Ramones erano molto più di una semplice novità. Chi ha la fortuna di avere il vinile con la track list originaria possiede un pezzo di storia della musica rock.
