Indissolubile. Instancabile macinatore di riff, linee vocali, refrain e album con i suoi Running Wild, cioè i suoi figli. Schiere di fans in giro per l'Europa hanno seguito e acclamato i vari parti musicali di Rolf Kasparek, leader indiscusso e fondatore dei su citati Running Wild.
Una carriera nata, vissuta e poi morta, nella semi notorietà, ma soprattutto nella consapevolezza artistica di non voler deludere gli aficionados. Fin dall'iniziale "Gates to purgatory" del 1984, Kasparek ha sempre continuato a proporre il suo credo musicale, fatto di heavy metal classico, inni pirateschi e birra. Elementi che ritroviamo in tutti i lavori dei Running Wild, che seppur sempre ancorati allo stesso modo di suonare, sono riusciti a sopperire a questa mancanza di originalità con un'attitudine francamente strepitosa. In particolare quella di Rolf Kasparek, che pur cambiando membri innumerevoli volte, ha sempre saputo tirar fuori dischi almeno degni di essere ascoltati. Così dopo "Masquerade" (1995) e "The rivalry" (1998), da molti considerati come l'inizio della fine, pur con varie difficoltà, il caro vecchio pirata Rolf è tornato in studio per dare alla luce "Victory", l'undicesima nascita di questo uomo di mare e metallo.
I fans li hanno imparati a conoscere ed accettare con il passare degli anni, tanto che ad ogni nuova uscita della band, erano pronti e consapevoli di ascoltare album senza la minima variazione stilistica, identici o quasi a tutti quelli passati (ormai tutto concluso visto che Kasparek ha deciso di terminare l'attività del gruppo). E' per questo motivo che nonostante la band abbia indubbiamente perso dei colpi, essa ha sempre mantenuto nel corso dei decenni uno zoccolo duro di sostenitori che li seguivano in ogni parte d'Europa. Anche per Victory, cd molto simile ad altri lavori targati Running Wild, l'accoglienza da parte dei fans fu comunque positiva.
Sia ben chiaro: "Victory" nulla aggiunge alla lunga carriera dei teutonici. Eppure se si sono amate le sfuriate metalliche di "Death or glory", il clima oscuro e grezzo di "Pile of skulls", la potenza di "Black hand inn", non si può far altro che amare anche questo lavoro. In diversi brani ed in particolare in "When time runs out", "Tsar", "The hussar", "Return of the gods" e "Silent killer" si respira quell'aria battagliera e profondamente anthemica che li aveva fatti esplodere con "Under Jolly Roger" e "Port royal". Tutte composizioni governate dall'ascia e dalla voce di Rolf Kasparek, costruite su un'alternanza riff/chorus/solo tanto ben realizzata quanto monotona.
Nulla di più di un album di questo tipo ci si poteva aspettare dai Running Wild d'inizio millennio. Nulla di più di una montagna di riff, di melodia corsara e di chorus da cantare davanti ad un enorme boccale di birra. Questo è quello che l'allegra band tedesca ha sempre garantito ai propri fans. Questo è ciò che viene garantito anche da Victory.
