2005: I Sentenced decidono di lasciare la scena musicale ma prima di farlo il mitico Ville Laihiala, (voce della band), ci rifila questo disco…
Ed ecco qui il tetro, anzi spettrale già dal titolo "The Funeral Album". Appena lo sento sento il "rozzissimo" (è proprio il caso di dirlo) basso di Sami Kukkohvi che inizia a suonare una serie di note e poi di seguito chitarre e batteria: è l'inizio del più oscuro funerale del 2005.
La prima canzone è infatti "May Today Become the Day", la canzone ha una carica impressionante! I Sentenced vogliono andarsene lasciando una ferita profonda nel metal finnico e fino ad ora ci stanno riuscendo! La seconda canzone è "Ever-Frost", l'inizio è apparentemente calmo ma sotto le sue membra di tranquillità si cela uno spirito hard rock tendente sempre di più al metal. Le chitarre distorte dei cinque finnici rendono le canzoni più pesanti di quanto sembrino e l'ascolto è veramente divertente.
La terza traccia ci lascia un pò con l'amaro in bocca perchè è un pò troppo lenta, almeno secondo me, sarebbe dovuta essere un pò più incisiva e aggressiva. Tuttavia "We Are But Falling Leaves" è una canzone profonda e tetra. "Her Last Five Minutes" è veramente bellissima, qui praticamente la morte si fa sempre più incisiva, addirittura lo si riesce a carpire dal significato del titolo. I Sentenced o li ami o li odi ed è proprio con "Where Waters Fall Frozen" che si riesce a capire quanto sia metallaro il quintetto finnico. Si può dire che la quinta song è una di cinquantatre secondi dove compare lo spirito black metal del gruppo, la canzone secondo me è uno spunto black dato che i riff sono veloci e senza sosta e la batteria di Vesa Ranta batte colpi senza sosta "frantumando" le casse al drumkit.
La sesta canzone è "Despair-Ridden Hearts", l'intro è un po' enigmatico e infatti ci sono solo una chitarra acustica una elettrica senza alcuna distorisione e un'armonica a bocca. La canzone però si rivela bellissima, cadenzata e con un ritmo preciso. gli aspetti tecnici classici dei Sentenced non mancano in questo disco anzi i cinque fanno di tutto per mettercene altri. "Vengeance Is Mine" è la settima traccia di questo funeralesco album e proprio nella seconda traccia più brutale dell'album troviamo ancora la morte e la vendetta come temi. La canzone è veramente agghiacciante e bellissima. L'ottava song è l'unica brutta di questo album, sembra quasi che i Sentenced si siano voluti rimangiare tutte le cose buone fatte in questo album.
Parlo troppo presto perchè "Lower The Flags" è una canzone bellissima e sotto certi versi progressiva. Il pianoforte all'inizio rende la canzone più tetra di quanto non lo fosse. "Consider Us Dead" è la traccia seguente e devo dire veramente ben riuscita, eseguita senza sbavature, l'unica cosa che posso dire è che le canzoni di quest'album sono veramente belle fin'ora, nessuna pecca da parte dei cinque finnici. anche "Drain Me" è quadrata, bella e con dei riff potenti, non molto pesanti, ed è per questo che la differenzia dalle altre. "Karu" è una canzone di sola chitarra classica che si potrebbe definire inutile ma i Sentenced con questa traccia hanno voluto riflettere sulla loro carriera da musicisti e questo lo dicono anche in un intervista rilasciata ad un giornale di musica. Si chiude in bellezza questo funeralesco ma bellissimo disco con "End Of The Road" dove i finnici dicono addio alla loro carriera musicale per sempre.
I Sentenced non esistono più ma le loro canzoni specialmente di queso album rimarrano segnate nella storia del metallo pesante.
