"Sparkle In The Rain" ha l'arduo destino di succedere a "New Gold Dream", l'album simbolo degli anni ottanta e lo fa superando l'esame a pieni voti.
Sicuramente è diverso dal precedente album ma i Simple Minds hanno sempre composto in maniere da non essere ripetitivi.
Le sonorità rock si fondono con l'elettronica in maniera eccelsa con Mel Gaynor e Steve Lillywhite, produttore del disco, a imprimere quanto sopra al disco.
Difficile stabilire quali sono le canzoni più belle del disco ma se dovessi scegliere direi "Book Of Brilliant Things" e "East At Easter". La prima è caratterizzata dalla soave tastiere di McNeil e dai ricami ritmico-solistici di Burchill; la seconda è catterizzata dal riff crescente di Burchill che sfocia nella rullata di Gaynor che fa esplodere il pezzo... fantastica!
"Up On The Catwalk", "Speed Your Love To Me", "Waterfront" tre super hits a completare un disco imperdibile con una resa live eccezionale e per certi versi irripetibile.
