Dopo il tanto atteso e discusso 'Iowa' gli Slipknot regalano ai loro fan "Disasterpieces" (N.B. il dvd è intitolato "Disasterpieces" e la canzone invece "Disastarpiece") registrato alla London Arena, England, il 14 febbraio 2002. Un dvd musicale classico, ma che sa coinvolgere fino in fondo con nove veri e propri animali da palcoscenico.
Una produzione curata nei minimi particolari, immagini e suono perfetti, ma sopratutto un regia mozzafiato, sicuramente uno dei punti cardine del dvd. Bella anche l'idea di assegnare ad ogni membro della band un telecamera personale che ci fa vedere "con gli occhi" di ogniuno dei nove, ma questa "chicca" a possiamo apprezzare meglio nel secondo dvd. Qui gli Slipknot danno sfogo a tutta la loro "spacconaggine" (passatemi il termine), sfoggiando le loro nuove tute con tanto di fascia stile nazista sul braccio con la "S" tribale a capeggiare e due immensi 666 ai lati del palco a riprendere il provocatorio satanismo della copertina di Iowa e dalla song "Heretic Anthem" (provocatorio perchè il ritornello recita "If your're 555, then I'm 666", per far capire che il metal non corrisponde a satanismo come molti credono; si potrebbe aprire un dibattito sul ritornello e sulla commercialità di questi gesti provocatori, ma non è questa la sede per farlo).
Il Primo dvd contenente il concerto che si apre con l'arrivo dei fan alla London Arena, e con la preparazione dei nove 'Knot, che sembra avvenire molto intensamente, con la tensione che cresce e i fan che intonano cori per i loro idoli. Il palco non si vede perchè coperto da un grande sipario bianco. Parte l'intro "515" (prefisso dello stato dell'Iowa) ed è il delirio, l'attesa cresce a dismisura. Dopo qualche interminabile attimo, i piatti di Joey iniziano a farsi sentire, in contemporanea alla caduta del sipario parte una devastante "People = Shit" che viene eseguita davvero alla perfezione, contrariamente ad altre performances della band; subito di seguito senza un attimo di respiro "Liberate" con l'intro che viene tenuta per qualche attimo in più, con Corey che fa saltare tutto il palazzetto (credo che questa sia una della canzoni meglio riuscite di tutto il dvd). Spazio poi ad uno dei singoli con "Left Behind" che stona forse un pò vista la sua commercialità, che vien subito dimentacata con la cattiveria di "Eeyore" e "Desasterpiece". Il momento di "tragua" arriva con l'accoppiata "Purity"/"Gently" con scenografie ed atmosfere davvero da brividi, compresa finta neve che cade. In "Purity" Corey dimostra di non saper solo urlare ma anche di saper cantare, coinvolgendo con una canzone forse tra le più sconosciute del repertorio. Riparte però la devastazione con "Eyeless", l'altro singolo "My Plague" e "New Abortion" che merita una menzione speciale siccome non è di sicuro anche questa una delle canzoni più famose ma qui viene eseguita in modo spettacolare.
Cambia la scenografia e dietro al palco appare un pentacolo che lascia intravedere un caprone, ovvia quindi "Heretic Anthem" con tutto il pubblico a intonare il ritornello. In "Spit It Out" Corey dimostra di essere un frontman come pochi altri, perchè riuscire a far sedere tutto un intero palazzetto e farlo saltare subito dopo non è cosa da tutti. A seguire poi il classico dei classici "Wait And Bleed" con i fan che cantano a squarcia gola. Dietro al palco torna a capeggiare il logo "Slipknot" e dopo una breve pausa gli 'Knot tornano sul palco per terminare il concerto con "(sic)" e "Surfacing". Nelle pause del concerto sono stati inseriti vari spezzoni tra cui la preparazione, le interviste, l'incontro con i fan, il montaggio del palco, le prove pre-concerto, e una "sample-scratch" session di Sid da pelle d'oca per chi si intende di djing.
Sopratutto però l'ormai famigerato assolo di Joey con la batteria che ruota in aria, incredibile. Tutte le canzoni sono state eseguite alla perfezione, riuscendo a coinvlgere il pubblico dal primo all'ultimo minuto, grazie anche alle grandi doti di Taylor come frontman, ma in generale a tutti (a parte Craig che non si vede praticamente mai) i componenti che si dimostrano più che a loro agio on stage dimenadosi come dei pazzi per ogni istante dello show.
Nel secondo dvd troviamo tutti i video prodotti dalla band fino a quel momento, compresa la versione animata di "Wait And Bleed", poi attraverso tre canzoni riprese dal concerto possiamo scegliere ognuno dei nove membri e vivere tutta la canzone attraverso la sua telecamera personale.
Nel complesso è un ottimo prodotto, da avere per i fan, ma sicuramente anche da vedere per ogni genere di utente, siccome a mio avviso è uno dei migliori dvd musicali fin qui prodotti. Che piacciano o no, gli Slipknot dal vivo sono nel loto habitat naturale e qui lo dimostrano, sia con trovate scenografiche forse commerciali, ma soprattutto con una presenza on stage propria solo a poche altre band in circolazione.
