Quando Guido Chiesa scrisse il libriccino "Sonic Life" fece notare alla Gioventù Sonica che il mixaggio di 'Goo', realizzato dal produttore Ron Saint Germain, era più tradizionale del suono.
I Nostri risposero che si erano trovati con le spalle al muro, che con Nick Sansano, con il quale avevano iniziato a lavorare, non si erano trovati bene e che furono costretti a prendere il primo produttore possibile. L'album, seppure di buona fattura, nè risentì. come affermò il solito Thurston Moore «nulla suona come dovrebbe. E' duro, si, ma troppo pulito.»
Scusate il noioso preambolo, ma è da qui che nasce in me la voglia di scoprire il fantomatico "Goo Demos", album che, pare, la Gioventù Sonica fece uscire il solito giorno dell'uscita di "Goo", in polemica, forse, con la Geffen, colpevole di aver reso troppo morbido il loro primo album major.
Mi tocca però aspettare il 2005 per ascoltare il famigerato "Goo Demos", quando viene pubblicato come secondo cd nella deluxe edition di "Goo".
L'album è effettivamente più grezzo, con i pezzi (i soliti dell'album ufficiale) che, oltre a cambiare in alcuni casi il nome (per es. Disappearer diventa Number One) sono più dilatati (il caso più clamoroso è quello di Mildred Pierce che passa dai 2 minuti e 13 secondi a 8 e 52). A me piace più della versione, diciamo così, ufficiale (specie la strumentale Lee #2), comunque non voglio annoiarvi oltre, spero solo di invogliare qualcuno ad ascoltare questo disco semidimenticato (ma meritevole) della discografia dei Sonic Youth.
Un ultima cosa, la versione originale di "Goo Demos", usita per la Sonic Death, vede l'artwork di Thurston Moore, raffigurante David Geffen Con Cher!!
