1) "50/50": Ritmo caraibico con tutto quello che serve percussioni fiati ecc… e Jimmy Page che ci mette un bell'assolo blues alla fine.
2) "STRANGER": Molto anni ottanta, piena di tastiere, tira sul ballabile.
3) "FLAMING HEART": Una libidine di rock blues, tre chitarristi in azione Stills, Page e Bernie Leadon degli Eagles, due assoli entrambi di Page.
4) "LOVE AGAIN": Di nuovo atmosfera caraibica stavolta tutta sintetica, veramente danzereccia.
5) "NO PROBLEM": Ottantiana tipica, con tutti gli stacchetti al posto giusto, leggerotta, un riempitivo. Stills vi esegue un assolo di basso…
6) "CAN'T LET GO": Grandiosa ballata rhythm & blues con Stills che canta le strofe e lascia i ritornelli alla grande voce piena di soul del suo tastierista Mike Finnigan e poi ci mette il carico con un grande assolo finale. Caldissima.
7) "GREY TO GREEN": Melodia ispirata all'amico Neil Young, ma si vuole cercare comunque di far ballare la gente, gli anni del resto sono quelli. Graham Nash fornisce le consuete altissime e precise armonie vocali.
8) "ONLY LOVE CAN BREAK YOUR HEART": E' quella di Young. Stills la risolve a walzer cadenzato, senza la lagna di Neil e siccome si sono sempre amichevolmente "pizzicati", vi aggiunge una strofa che evidentemente gli sembrava mancasse…
9) "NO HIDING PLACE": Country! Cantano in sei, c'è pure il banjo, Chris Hillman vi suona un breve assolo di mandolino.
10) "RIGHT BY YOU": Blues! Sanguigno, strascicato, Page stavolta gioca in casa e rilascia una performance da brivido, i due si dividono gli assoli e battagliano a lungo in jam session.
Stephen Stills non è un pirla. Non è un folkettaro californiano. E' nato in Texas, da bambino è vissuto in Centramerica, ha assorbito tante musiche diverse le ha fatte sue ed è sempre stato capace di renderle con efficacia. Ottimo chitarrista specie con l'acustica, compositore prolifico, il mio preferito del ben conosciuto supergruppo Crosby Stills Nash & Young anche se in questo, in Italia, mi sento in minoranza: le preferenze vanno solitamente allo scorbutico canadese Young o al limite al fricchettone David Crosby. In questo periodo gira in televisione una pubblicità di automobili che ha per colonna sonora la sua "For What It's Worth" (Buffalo Springfield, 1968) un capolavoro folk blues con un suono ancora magico e perfetto. Lui è un grande.
"Right By You" è del 1984, risente dei difetti di quel decennio molto paraculo, con le ritmiche un po' discotecare e rimbombanti ed i sintetizzatori spernacchianti ma ci sono tre o quattro pezzi della madonna, degli ottimi amici che danno una mano al nostro, c'è una bella varietà di stili e insomma il disco ha il necessario contenuto per invecchiare bene.
