Per scuotere e dare risalto alla carriera di un gruppo e per raggiungere la tanto ambita notorietà, occorre compiere il cosiddetto salto di qualità, ovvero la pubblicazione di un disco, o magari di un singolo, che riesca a conquistare migliaia di fan e che permetta di scrivere il proprio nome nel libro della storia del rock.
"Eye Of The Tiger" rappresenta l'album del successo commerciale dei Survivor, band americana capitanata dal chitarrista/tastierista Jim Peterik, ottenuto soprattutto dalla title-track, lanciata come singolo e divenuta nota al pubblico in quanto facente parte della colonna sonora del celeberrimo film Rocky III, dominando le classifiche della rivista Billboard per 7 settimane e facendo conquistare al gruppo un Grammy Award.
Il pezzo offre un ritmo sostenuto e carico di energia, che bene si sposa, appunto, con le movenze della boxe. "Feels Like Love" rispetto alla precedente vede un maggiore uso di tastiere, soprattutto nel ritornello, e mostra un Peterik che offre riff ispirati e di classe, che diverranno un suo marchio di fabbrica. La seguente "Hesitation Dance" èg una canzone molto energica, dall'inizio caratterizzato da chitarre in chiaro stile Ac/Dc e interpretata molto bene dal singer Dave Bickler.
"The One That Really Matters" è il terzo singolo scelto dalla band che conferma lo stile melodico di inizio disco e quel tocco di aggressività fornita dalla chitarra di Peterik . "I'm Not That Man Anymore" porta una leggera attenuazione del ritmo, anche se nel ritornello la batteria e la voce di Bickler si fanno più incisive, per dare più risalto ai toni malinconici del pezzo.
La successiva "Children Of The Night" restituisce all'ascoltatore l'energia e la carica, garantite ancora una volta dal curato lavoro della chitarra di Peterik, lasciando le tastiere quasi in secondo piano. Tastiere che però si rivelano le protagoniste di "Ever Since The World Began", canzone dal forte tono sentimentale e toccante in alcuni punti, che sottolinea il talento nel ricercare melodie appassionanti ma mai banali del combo americano.
"American Heartbeat" il secondo singolo del lotto dall'inizio caratterizzato da tastiere quasi futuristiche e dal ritornello che vede la presenza di cori, che ridanno un po' ai Bee Gees. Il disco si chiude con la ballad "Silver Girl", con le tastiere ancora in primo piano, accompagnate da un ottimo assolo di Peterik nella parte centrale.
"Eye Of The Tiger" viene ricordato soprattutto per la grande notorietà raggiunta dal singolo omonimo, ma il resto del disco non è certo da meno e offre un ottimo AOR di classe e molto orecchiabile, che non può di certo mancare nella collezione di tutti gli appassionati del genere e dell'hard rock melodico e raffinato.
