Se c'è una cosa dura a morire sono i pregiudizi. Pure Piero Pelù ai tempi dei Litfiba cantava "Si può vincere una guerra in due e forse anche da solo... ma è più difficile cambiare un'idea". Non c'è cosa peggiore che un pregiudizio gratuito a prescindere. Chessò, se una donna viene etichettata come puttana (e magari mica è vero), oppure se un tizio viene bollato come vagabondo di natura (e neppure questo è vero). Ebbene, quanto più essi si adoperano per rendere, l'una pura e immacolata la propria immagine e l'altro imperterrito e instancabile esempio di stacanovismo vivente, quanto più il loro atteggiamento sarà mal interpretato.
Nella fattispecie gli scozzesi Texas capitanati da Sharleen Spiteri, in attività dal 1989, non è che fino al 2003 (anno di pubblicazione di questo album) si siano particolarmente distinti in campo musicale.
Autori di un canonico e piuttosto scialbo pop targato UK, che però ha fruttato loro non pochi ritorni sul piano commerciale, col tempo hanno parecchio affinato la loro arte nonché il sex-appeal di Sharleen Spiteri, cantante e front-woman del gruppo, che ad ogni uscita discografica gratifica le cover della band con la sua graziosa presenza. Il salto in avanti, però, stavolta è clamoroso e i pregiudizi destinati a crollare.
E' vero ogni tanto fa capolino la maniera come nel caso di "Broken" e "And I Dream" dove aleggia il fantasma di Madonna (la cantante intendo) e certi agganci con il recente passato sono evidenti, ma brani come "Carnival Girl", "Another Day", "Careful What You Wish For", "Carousel Dub" e "Place In My World" testimoniano inequivocabilmente la coscienza e la voglia di volersi rivolgere ad un pubblico più maturo quando prima il target era quasi esclusivamente post-adolescenziale.
Gli inserti rap e l'approccio verso ritmi dub, sempre misurati e mai oltre le righe, ne fanno un'opera varia e sfaccettata a dimostrazione della crescita esponenziale del duo Spiteri-McElhone, co-autori dell'intera scaletta. Fra tanto correre non disdegnano neppure una puntatina in territorio country con la dolce ballata "Big Sleep".
I loro cinque precedenti album al confronto con questo ne escono irrimediabilmente con le ossa rotte, ma pure il Greatest Hits licenziato appena tre anni prima, rischia la sospensione dell'incontro per manifesta inferiorità.
