Si può chiudere così la giornata, aspettare che la puntina arrivi all'ultimo solco di un disco quasi dimenticato del 1972 per emozionarsi e commuoversi.
Il canto sofferente di Dennis Wilson impregna la stanza di struggente malinconia, una melodia esile che si chiude avvolgendosi in una trama orchestrale timidamente romantica. "Cuddle Up" è una canzone semplicemente magnifica colpevolmente scordata nella discografia disordinata di un gruppo, i Beach Boys, che nei primi anni '70 produceva dischi bellissimi destinati a sparire nelle charts di tutto il mondo sommersi da altri suoni più in voga. Peccato perchè fino ad "Holland" uscito nel 1973, la band californiana, che ha ormai in Brian Wilson un autore fantasma chiuso a combattere i suoi demoni, mostra un colpo di coda piacevole e interessante. E' il caso di "Carl and the Passion-So Tough" del 1972, schiacciato dai ben più noti "Surf's Up" e "Holland", vede l'ingresso in formazione di Blondie Chaplin e di Ricky Fataar alla batteria in sostituzione di Dennis Wilson infortunato e impossibilitato a suonare.
I suoni virano verso lente ballate della West Coast, "Hold On Dear Brother", e più soul come nella bella "Here She Comes" firmate entrambe da Chaplin. "Make It Good" è la prima traccia firmata da Dennis Wilson, impasto sonoro malinconico a cullare il suo tipico canto ruvido in una piccola anticipazione della chiusura che arriverà con "Cuddle Up". "Marcella" è una trascurabile hit firmata a più mani da Brian Wilson, mentre Carl con Al Jardine e Love cantano la più classica ballata in stile Beach Boys "All This Is That", armonie vocali curatissime su una melodia al piano elettrico. Il finale è tutto di Dennis Wilson, note di piano partono lontane per una canzone che è quasi una ninna nanna cullante, poi la struggente apertura con il verso "your love is so warm and good to me", dichiarazione sincera che introduce uno dei passaggi per coro e orchestra più commoventi comparsi su un disco di musica rock.
