Seppur all'apparenza banali, alcune domande è lecito porle a se stessi e agli altri.
Se ne fanno tante di domande in Sweet Harmony, e si trova nell'unione una risposta concreta.
Conscience è una grande, enorme stanza in cui risuona il timbro caldo di Jon Marsh. Tutto funziona perché gli elementi sono essenziali, e soltanto quella voce lì, quelle note e quel beat possono rendere Sweet Harmony l'inno che è.
Il factotum dei Beloved ci ha sempre tenuto a specificare quanto con il famoso videoclip non abbia avuto alcuna intenzione di esaltare il carattere sessuale del brano. Si può accennare a questo pur intraprendendo un sentiero più spirituale e comunitario. Vale la pena rubacchiare uno dei più celebri ritornelli beatlesiani e approfondirlo? Se il fine ultimo è Sweet Harmony, si.
Ma non si compia l'errore di considerare Conscience un pretesto per il solo singolo apripista.
Spirit ti accoglie, fa in modo di metterti a tuo agio e se cerchi lo spigolo più elettronico lo trovi, nonostante l'omogeneità dell'album.
Gli angoli della stanza sono infatti Lose Yourself In Me e Celebrate Your Life. Si tratta di ritmi davvero stupendi; quelli così rappresentativi di quella decade della quale il sottoscritto è particolarmente affascinato.
A salvare i Beloved dall'abbandono di Steve Waddington fu proprio la moglie di Jon, Helena (co-produttrice e coautrice), per cui il progetto rimase ufficialmente comunque un duo.
Se vivere in unione col mondo fosse cosa facile, ciò che sta dentro a questo lavoro sarebbe superfluo. Proprio per il fatto che l'indole di queste tracce sia di una semplicità naive, si può coglierne il calore con il quale consolarsi.
Sarà stato l'amore a fare di Conscience l'opera più importante della band? Mi piace pensare di si. Conscience è un disco nudo, e come tale pone le sue domande in buona fede.
