Trattato con sufficienza dalla stampa specializzata e snobbato dagli aficionados della band perchè non considerato all'altezza di capolavori come il primo "Fire Of Love", il secondo "Miami" e lo stupendo "Death Party". Ma, in tutta onestà, un disco come questo meritava tale trattamento? No, perdio!
"Las Vegas Story" dei fenomenali Gun Club è un album magnifico, forse non all'altezza dei titoli precedentemente citati, ma certamente un disco colmo di passione, di ottime idee e di pathos.
Ascoltatevi, tanto per farvi un'idea, il rock 'n' roll cimiteriale di "Walkin' With The Beast", la malinconia temperata di "Eternally Is Here", la potenza punk di "Moonlight Motel" o le immortali note di "Secret Fires" e ditemi: per quale motivo un capitolo come questo deve passare in sordina e perchè mai deve essere, stupidamente, considerato come un mezzo passo falso?
Non siete ancora convinti di quello che sto scrivendo? Andate ad ascoltarvi "The Stranger In My Town" con il suo incedere trasandato, la toccante cover di "My Man's Gone Now" o la psichdelica "Give Up The Sun". Perchè, allora, non rivalutare il quarto parto discografico dei nostri? E perchè non godere di "Las Vegas Story" per quello che è in grado di esprimere con grande classe?
Certo, rispetto ai dischi fondamentali di Pierce & company, qui sono udibili ecchi abbastanza "mainstream", divagazioni che in un primo momento possono lasciare leggermente interdetti, ma nella sua totalità "Las Vegas Story" ci consegna una band con i controcazzi, animata dal demoniaco rock 'n' roll e da uno dei suoi più illustri padri; il Sig. Blues.
Molto meglio del seguente, e spesso citato, "Mother Juno" ma qualche metro al di sotto del dinamitardo "Fire Of Love"; il leggendario "The Las Vegas Story" regala emozioni terremotanti. L'immaginario poetico è , grosso modo, il solite anche se la musica, pur non discostandosi dal classico trademark caratteristico dei Gun Club, si fa più accessibile.
Il mitico Jeffrey Lee Pierce, il crampsiano Kid Congo Power alla chitarra, la lugubre Patrica Morrison al basso ed il grande Terry Graham alla batteria; confezionarono questo indimenticabile disco nel lontanissimo 1984, proponendoci quella che, purtroppo, è destinata ad essere ricordata come l'ultima grande fatica del Club! Non fatevelo sfuggire perchè, pur non trovando un numero eccessivo di estimatori, "Las Vegas Story" merita tutta la vostra stima ed il vostro rispetto! Un disco da riscoprire.
