Esce nel 2001 un "Best Of" piuttosto strano, soprattutto per la discografia che la punk'n'roll band svedese aveva all'attivo fino a quel momento. Infatti ufficialmente erano usciti solamente due album ("Barely Legal" e "Veni Vidi Vicious"), mentre diversi erano stati gli EP sfornati dalla band. Curato dal carissimo Alan McGee (Creation), per questo album non è stato fatto nient'altro che raccogliere singoli, inediti e alcuni dei brani inseriti nei primi due lavori ufficiali per una misera durata di appena 29 minuti di musica.
La traccia di apertura Hate To Say I Told You So (il brano più lungo del disco, 3'27") rappresenta quello che è un po' il filo conduttore del disco, e cioè un punkrock piuttosto veloce e grintoso, con delle venature garage che caratterizzeranno notevolmente il sound della band.
Via via scorrendo, si nota come soprattutto in Main Offender e in Supply And Demand si resti sempre sulla stessa falsariga del primo brano. Nessun brano arriva alla durata di tre minuti, due episodi restano addirittura sotto i due minuti (Untutored Youth e Hail, Hail, Spit and Drool).
In tutto il disco emerge un garage-rock aggressivo, veloce anche se poco originale. Notevoli sono infatti le ispirazioni al punk anni '70 (vedi Sex Pistols) e al garage targato '60s.
La voce del cantante Howlin' Pelle Almqvist è sempre piuttosto veloce, quasi pazza, schizofrenica. Il sound della band a tratti risulta essere addirittura poco curato, rozzo, tipicamente garage. Questo è quello che vogliono fare gli Hives, e questo in fondo è quello che riescono a fare, niente di più e niente di meno.
In sostanza, questo è l'album che ci si aspetta dalla band svedese. Tracce brevi, veloci, grintose, con chitarre graffianti e basso semplice ma molto incisivo. Frontman pazzo e look classico di cinque-tutti-uguali (sempre rigorosamente in bianco e nero) quanto basta per essere una band tipicamente da palco, da esibizione live. Su disco i brani possono sembrare ripetitivi, tutti uguali (in fondo un po' è vero...) ma la vera casa del gruppo sembra proprio essere il palco, l'esibizione dal vivo, e non lo studio di registrazione. Disco discreto, non da buttare ma nemmeno da avere a tutti i costi, in fondo è una raccolta...
