Ciao carissimi ecco la mia nuova (non dico settima) recensione, e fedele alla mia linea recensisco un altro concerto Gothic.

Questa volta si parla del leggendario concerto dei Sisters of Mercy uscito su Vhs con il titolo di "Wake". Il concerto fu l'esibizione finale di quella formazione, esibizione fatta appositamente per i fan.

Facciamo un passo indietro nella mia vita personale: erano i primi anni novanta quando emozionato andavo a noleggiare nel mio negozio musicale di fiducia i miei primi cd.

La mia iniziazione nel Gothic fu con la raccolta Some girls wander by mistake proprio dei Sisters, dentro c'erano tutte le copertine dei singoli, che dire quella musica, quei titoli di canzoni, quei testi, quell'immagine mi cambiò la vita. Erano TROPPO MALEDETTI, TROPPO MALATI, TROPPO OSCURI.

Crescendo ho capito che ero io che non volevo essere "normale" in una fase della mia vita e sono poi cambiato, ma questa è un' altra storia.

I Sisters rappresentavano il lato macho e rocker della scena gotica inglese degli anni ottanta, avevano un suono (allora) originalissimo ed un cantante con un tono di voce basso e cavernoso, delle chitarre a volte post-punk, a volte epiche, con testi maledetti e ribelli.

Veniamo al concerto:

fu tenuto nel 18 giugno del 1985 all'Albert Royal Hall, al massimo del loro successo e seguito commerciale, celebrità dovuta anche al successo del fenomeno del movimento gotico.

Si alza il tendone e dietro la macchina del fumo ecco i nostri quattro, si vede un capellone Wayne Hussey alla chitarra, Andrew Eldritch con cappello da cowboy e sigaretta in mano, completano la band Gary Marx all'altra chitarra e Craig Adams al basso .

Per tutto il concerto il regista giocherà con le luci e con gli effetti visivi in un girato che attualmente appare un pò datato (e ridicolo).

Si apre con First and last and always e già sotto il palco si canta e si balla. La canzone ha un riff molto epico ed immediato e una voce che urla nel ritornello. Segue poi Body and soul, e poi Marian, molto deprimente e triste, con un cantato che cresce e scende varie volte. Ecco No time to cry, epica anch'essa, con l'anthem del ritornello.

Arriva "Walk away", anch'essa potente ed energica... si capisce che la scaletta è impostata sui pezzi più trascinanti e rock: lo schema è sempre lo stesso strofa sommessa e ritornello potente. Poi c'è Possession, adoro questa canzone con un giro di tastiera molto accattivante.

Poi la cover Emma, Anphetamine logic, ecco A rock and a hard place energica e da cantare in coro, Floorshow, una menzione particolare per Alice, uno delle canzoni più maudit e malate della storia della musica, con una struttura semplice ma unica (per me IL RIFF malato per eccellenza), poi Fix e Knockin' on heaven's door.

In conclusione dico che negli anni ho amato i vari gruppi ricopioni (e cioè Garden of delight, Love like blood, Dronning maud land, Rosetta stone, Nosferatu, Merry thoughs etc), però i Sisters forse perchè di un periodo unico li ho di più nel cuore.....
