La seconda prova della Aussie Rock Band di Craig Nicholls è piena di cliché musicali e povera di idee.
Un chitarrista ritmico si è aggiunto al terzetto originale per rendere più corposo il Sound dei Vines, ma si è portati a credere che la cosa sia successa più per mascherare le enormi carenze artistiche del gruppo che per altro (vedere le assurde performance Live “All Over the World”, negli ultimi due anni).
“Ride”, il singolo che lancia il disco, è un concentrato di ruberie ai danni di Cobain e soci, “impoppito” dagli applausi a tempo e infarcito dall’inspiegabile re-inserimento di un riff già presente nel primo disco “Higly Evolved” (quello iniziale di "Ain’t No Room", per la precisione) ! Cambiando qualcosina al ritmo del pezzo e mettendo gli accenti al posto giusto si arriva con facilità a canticchiare “Dive with meeeeeee” di "Incesticide".
Fare l’analisi a tutte le canzoni sarebbe una palla bestiale però, in linea di massima, si può dire che il disco alza la testa giusto nei momenti più lenti: "Autumn Shade II" , il brano che dà il titolo all’album e "Sun Child" (che tra l’altro è una B-Sides di un loro singolo del 2002… ) sono veramente delle buone Pop-McCartney-Ballad, con tanto di cambi di ritmo e melodie ruffiane, che però non riescono a convincere del tutto di aver speso bene i soldi.
Purtroppo l’album è pieno di cose inspiegabili, tipo l’informe “Tv Pro”, che da sola può far capire come oggi purtroppo si arrivi al secondo disco belli che cotti.
La produzione di ogni singolo brano è deficitaria in qualcosa e con la scusa di voler fare un disco più psichedelico sono venute a mancare la rabbia, la potenza, l’esplosività che avevano trainato l’album d’esordio, che, tutto sommato rimane un buon disco. Sempre per i canoni musicali di oggi...

I Vines sanno destreggiarsi bene tra suoni morbidi e dolci e tra rabbia e distorsioni.
Il tutto suona sporco, rock, ma terribilmente melodico!
