Quando meno te lo aspetti....

E' stato solamente per caso se ho ascoltato questa band proveniente dal Michigan, ma dal nome greco che significa rigenerarsi/rinascere, composta attualmente da 7 elementi (che nei live aumentano) e così mi sono trovato immerso inaspettatamente nel loro 'Floating World', ricco non solo di atmosfere dolci e serene, ma soprattutto di passione, energia, suoni.

14 tracce collegate spesso tra loro, in quello che è un concept-album iniziato nel 2003, su una delle parti più complesse ed essenziali del pensiero giapponese: il "mondo fluttuante" (che per gli stessi rappresenta non solo storia ed arte, ma anche un metodo di vita, una specie di limbo, di salvagente a protezione del dolore e della malinconia), le cui enigmatiche sonorità rasentano una notevole potenza orchestrale, oltre ad una forza interiore che solo le grandi canzoni d'autore hanno, in cui la mente potrebbe anche correre verso Sufjan Stevens, Mùm ed Architecture In Helsinki.

Gli Anathallo potrebbero sembrare pretenziosi, invece credo che abbiano coraggio da vendere e che siano perfettamente consapevoli della loro bravura: non si spiegherebbe altrimenti un progetto del genere così denso di difficoltà. L'esempio calzante viene da "Hanasakajijii (part I-IV)": una suite divisa in quattro parti, sulla storia di un cane che cerca l'oro per il proprio padrone, dal pop emozionale estremamente incisivo e vario. Ma come non poter segnalare anche la melodia costruita sui campanellini di "Dokkoise House (with face covered)", il ritmo altalenante di "Hoodwink", la dolce tribalità di "Kasa no Hone (the umbrella's bones)", la sognante "The Bruised Reed", il coinvolgimento che prende ascoltando "By Number".

Potenza e fragilità si mescolano nel "mondo fluttuante" degli Anathallo, che hanno realizzato delle magnifiche disordinate esplosioni sonore di non facile immediatezza, accompagnate costantemente dalla emozionale voce di Matt Joynt, dai cori ritmici degli altri componenti (una anche femminile), dal loro battito di mani e da trombe e clarinetti assolutamente coinvolgenti.

Grande sorpresa.

So you see, all things are so bright and spiritual. These seeds are growing in extraordinary colors. Convinced? Even I believe that I have grown something, it's cased in light.
Don't worry about me, I'm gone. Don't worry about me, I'm off in a distant place where I can be the signifier, not that which is signified, the referent, convincing us (you and me both), for you my smile is like "bow, bow, bow, bow".
Out here there is no "under the skin", and the form of every other is hidden under covers. So let us sleep in ease of dark.
We couldn't rest, with this aweful sense of duty hanging off of our chests. Peeled away. We had to get back to where the grip of our own hands could lift us from the failures in the eyes of men, to form our scales and weigh our works, good again.
