Ci sono band che nel corso degli anni hanno saputo evolversi, impostando un diverso tipo di genere ma non tralasciando mai il fattore emozione. Tali band sono consapevoli che l'arte espressa con passione e amore, in qualsiasi forma essa sia, è sinonimo di bellezza. La genialità di tramutare malinconia, tristezza e piacere in sensazioni che accarezzano l'animo umano, rendendolo fragile come una neve sciolta dal calore del sole, non è facile. Ma gli Anathema in questo sono delle pietre monumentali.
La creatività di Cavanagh è a dir poco sublime. I suoi testi, le sue parole sono poesia, poesia in movimento che giace nei meandri più nascosti del nostro cuore. Quest'album per chi cerca queste emozioni non può che rimanere affascinato e cullato dalla sapienza di questo capolavoro. Si, perchè "Hindsight" è una sorta di riedizione romantica e dolce dei loro brani più eccelsi. Una raccolta in versione acustica delle ballate più suggestive che hanno reso la loro carriera un pilastro, un esempio per chi cerca nella musica la beatitudine, lo svago, il luogo dove potersi rifugiare nei momenti più tristi della vita.
L'opera meravigliosa si apre con "Fragile Dreams" la seconda traccia dell'album "Alternative 4", dove l'armonia sfiora delle vette assurde, un pianoforte versatile fa da cornice al suono candido di un violino che sa di "musa", ispirando la voce di Cavanagh. Altro fattore da notare l'interpretazione di codesto, che secondo me è stato il vero portabandiera del fascino degli Anathema. La sua grande forza, il suo animo, la padronanza nell'immedesimarsi in qualsiasi sua composizione è fenomenale. "Inner Silence" è l'esempio lampante di ciò che ho citato in precedenza. La poesia allo stato puro, l'amore descritto in tutta la sua interezza con l'uso di sole sei semplici frasi, difficile trattenere le lacrime di fronte a tanta meravigliosa sensibilità. L'amarezza e il dolore fanno da interpreti in "One Last Goodbye", canzone dedicata alla madre dei fratelli Cavanagh, il rimpianto di un figlio che con difficoltà dedica il suo affetto, perchè il legame che lega la madre al suo bambino è insormontabile. Purtroppo la sofferenza fa parte della vita di ogni uomo, ma da una brutta esperienza, dal buio un barlume di luce non cesserà mai di battere, la speranza di poter trovare la pace e l'affetto ci sarà sempre. "Are You There" è la conferma, una ballata semi-acustica ne fa da contorno, si arriva poi ad "Angelica", pregevole la rielaborazione in questa "raccolta", insieme ad "A Natural Disaster" la vetta più alta dell'album. Dove da protagonista troviamo una splendida voce feminile con un ottimo timbro e personalità.
Posso affermare dunque, con adeguata sicurezza che "Hindsight" è un lavoro straordinario, da consigliare a tutti. Io in particolare ci sono già affezionatissimo, perchè la loro musica è stata la mia salvezza nei miei momenti più tristi, la mia sofferenza è stata placata dal manto dell'arte di questo gruppo, che considero uno dei miei preferiti di sempre.

Troviamo infatti brani egregiamente riarrangiati al punto di risultare freschi e piacevoli da ascoltare.
Certamente un album suonato col cuore e con la voglia di creare qualcosa di più di un semplice lavoro acustico.
