"Rebirth" esce nel 2001 e lo definisco il loro miglio lavoro fino ad oggi. Avendo ascoltato (stupidamente...) prima "Temple of Shadows" lo considero più progressive, ci sono molte cose ben fatte, è un cd che scivola via senza intoppi e s'arriva alla fine molto facilmente e senza accorgersi... già questa cosa è MOLTO buona.
"In Excelsis" apre l'album aggressivamente, pochi secondi e subito "Nova Era" che è una tipica traccia del gruppo: ben fatta, ottimo ritonello con parte centrale strumentale davvero ottima. Segue l'affascinante "Millennium Sun" (secondo me la migliore di tutto l'album) dopo un inizio molto tranquillo, con la splendida voce di Edu Falaschi in primo piano, il ritmo s'alza e la canzone aquista maggior fascino anche grazie all'ottimo ritornello e con quel filo di malinconia che non guasta mai.
"Acid Rain" è la più veloce di tutto il lavoro, il power si fa sentire molto.. nella parte strumentale ottimi riff di chitarra: aggrressivi e coinvolgenti. "Heroes Of Sand" spezza il ritmo, è la ballad del cd (anche se non ne avevamo bisogno...) atmosfere sognanti e tranquille rischiano d'annoiare. Segue "Unholy Wars" che parte bene, le idee ci sono, peccato la parte strumentale un pò disordinata, i cambi di tempo fanno confusione. "Rebirth" dà il nome al lavoro, molto ritmata, ancora un'ottimo Edu Falaschi ma sinceramente non m'ha colpito più di tanto questa traccia. Non ha quei colpi di genio come sanno fare, un pò al di sotto delle loro capacità. "Judgement Day" è molto varia, a tratti dolce, a tratti più aggressiva; parte centrale ben fatta, malinconica, con un seguito più tecnico e messa in evidenza della bravura del chitarrista e batterista. La seguente "Running Alone" ha ancora un pò di disordine nel struttura, "stona" un pò nella parte strumentale ma poi si riprende con un'ottimo Kiko Loureiro. Il finale cantato è veramente molto bello: avvolgente e trascinante. "Visions Prelude" è una tipica canzone degli angra e c'accompagna al bellissimo finale di "Bleeding Heart": la più malinconica in tutto il lavoro, veramente bellissima con un ritornello struggente e profondo.
Come già detto quest'album scivola via dolcemente, senza mai annoiare, melodie molto buone in ogni traccia, tante buone cose, lo considero uno dei loro miglior lavori. Unica nota stonata una somiglianza nelle strutture di tutte le canzoni, troppo simili tra loro, mi aspettavo più fantasia. Ma questo è un piccolo particolare in un mare d'ottima musica.
Ancora una volta... per gli amanti del genere.

La sfida più grande fu quella di trovare qualcuno in grado di mantenere alto il nome Angra, cosa che a mio parere riuscì al 100%.
Rebirth è un disco che raccoglie in sé i migliori aspetti di Angels Cry e Holy Land, ma con una vena meno progressive e più power.
