Avevo giurato a me stesso di non acquistare mai più un disco di Axel Rudi Pell, il "non più giovane" chitarrista biondo teutonico. Questo ad onor del vero che Axel, coi suoi album fotocopia (in "copia-incolla style) mi aveva letteralmente smaronato tutto. Un conto è sperimentare. Un altro conto è riuscire a scoprire il proprio sound, quello che ti marchia a vita. Quello, tanto per intenderci, che, non appena udito il primo riff, esplodi urlando: "Cavolicchi! Questo qui è Axel Rudi Pell!!!". Axel, invece, è andato oltre. Ha, si, trovato il suo sound, quell'ibrido tra un heavy metal ottantiano e il power metal più speedy e roccioso, condendo il tutto con atmosfere pop e AOR-eggianti (nelle sue favolose metal ballads) ma, in ogni caxxo di disco, rispetta, addirittura, persino l'ordine in cui proporre le songs! Si parte con la solita intro, poi la power metal song più speedy possibile ed immaginabile, poi un a bella track marziale, molto heighties e, dopo ancora, la prima ballad. E via così, fino alla fine.
Beh, dopo questa prosopopea iniziale, avrete capito che, innanzi a "Diamonds Unlocked", mi sono avvicinato molto prudentemente. Ho preso il disco in mano è..... cosa?!?!?!? "A Beautiful Day"?
Essì. Era proprio uno dei nomi della tracklist dell'album di Axel. Seguita, a raffica, da altri titoli "presi in prestito".... Non ci vuole molto a capire che, se fai 2+2, il disco che hai mano è un album di cover. Una rivisitazione di ogni sorta di tipo di song, per l'occasione, riviste e corrette in salsa heavy metal. Ed è così che, una "A Beautiful Day" degli U2 (gruppo, da me, sempre troppo poco apprezzato), in chiave metallara, è bellissima, e te la canticchi pure tutta! E si va avanti con "Love Gun" dei Kiss, con "Stone" di Chris Rea, "Fools Game" di Michael Bolton e con la blueseggiante "Heartbreaker" dei Free. Insomma: un dischetto niente male! Godibile e divertente, fino alla fine, introdotto, ad uno e costume, da una stupida ed inutile intro che, in tutta sincerità, non c'entra davvero un beneamato cazzo chiodato con il resto delle canzoni dell'album.
E bravo Axel! Hai capito come si fa a dare alla luce un grande album: l'importante è che le canzoni non sia tu a scriverle..... muah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah!!!!!
