Una sola parola per definire questo album: capolavoro, se non addirittura apoteosi della musica.
Un vero e proprio "momento di gloria" del gruppo teutonico, che con questa rilettura di alcuni dei loro più grandi successi in chiave classica, accompagnati dalla Filarmonica di Berlino (nientepopodimeno), si confermano su tutti i fronti una delle maggiori band hard rock - heavy metal internazionali. La crudezza e la violenza del rock duro che si fonde perfettamente con l'eleganza e lo stile della musica classica; nella cover un tirannosauro ornato da gioielli, simbolo di questa strana ma riuscita unione.
Imperdibile per gli affezionati del gruppo, ma anche per gli appassionati di musica classica che vogliono sentire qualcosa di nuovo. Non è un album Live, per cui possiamo usufruire di tutta la nitidezza dei suoni registrati in studio, senza nessun fastidioso ritocco.
Disco da ascoltare tutto d'un fiato, rispettando rigorosamente la tracklist
Overture con il classico dei classici, "Rock you like a hurricane", diventata "Hurricane 2000", impreziosita da un'intro dei violini dei Berliner accompagnati da basso e batteria, per poi aprire il sipario sull'entrata, uno per volta, dei componenti principali, cantante e i due chitarristi: sempre presenti Rudolph Schenker e Matthias Jabs, il biondo e il moro,e le loro chitarre distorte al punto giusto, assoli limpidissimi ed ultra precisi; in aggiunta anche un coro femminile, e nel finale una parentesi simil-progressive. Da l'idea in generale di una sorta di cavalcata delle valchirie.
Interessante "Moment of Glory", scritta dal cantante e leader Klaus Meine, e cantata in compagnia dei bambini del coro delle voci bianche di Vienna, ma il bello viene al momento dell'apparizione, quasi inaspettata (non è indicato sul retro della cover) del nostro Zucchero. Si, proprio lui, che fa sentire tutta la sua verve blues in "Send Me an Angel", introducendo al n°4 della tracklist la canzone più famosa degli Scorps, "Wind of Change", elegantemente riproposta con un'intro orchestrale che richiama il tema della canzone, ma all'inizio sembra volere alludere a qualche altro brano, quasi a dare del lei alla canzone.
Splendido intermezzo strumentale, con due pezzi che richiamano "Crossfire", e la medley "Deadly Sting Suite", che ripropone in coppia "He's a Woman, She's a Man" e la potente "Dynamite", in un tripudio di chitarre, basso,batteria , violini, trombe, flauti e percussioni: ci fanno venire in mente epiche battaglie, scontri mitologici, e sono facilmente immaginabili come colonna sonora di una grande opera cinematografica. Presi così questi pezzi hanno poco da invidiare alle grandi composizioni del passato.
Viene riproposta anche "Still Loving You", ma prima è annunciata dalla melensa ""Here in my Heart", cover di Diane Warren, eseguita in duetto con la bellissima e bravissima Lyn Liechty, giovane cantante che non sarebbe errato definire la Celine Dion europea. In "Big City Nights" a sorpresa non c'è la squillante voce di Meine, ma Ray Wilson, scozzese, che entra alla perfezione nella parte, il pezzo sembra scritto per lui. Si chiude in bellezza con "Lady Starlight", impreziosita dal suono del sitar indiano.
C'è di tutto e di più in questo fantastico disco, che vanta anche diversi tentativi di imitazione, fra cui quello dei metallica, ma questo è certamente una spanna sopra tutti. Gli Scorpions con l'età si dimostrano sempre più maturi e professionali, diventando una delle band "immortali", a dispetto di chi, dopo il lungo silenzio, li dava per finiti. Attendiamo altre prodezze del genere.
