Dopo essermi divertito con "Parklife" mi sono fatto un viaggio musicale in Marocco con "Think Thank" per poi tornare e sentirmi sperduto ma per niente impaurito con "13"... ero in cerca del poker e l' ho trovato con questo "Leisure". "She's So High" mi da la conferma che anche stavolta gli antioasis hanno soddisfatto le mie aspettative.
"Bang" rimane sulla linea del power pop mentre "Slow Down" fa pensare ad una virata decisamente più rockettara. La batteria elettrica apre "Repition" a cui segue poi un riff ipnotico e la voce filtrata di Albarn. "Bad Day" inizia con un' armonica per poi mantenersi su un delicato pop rock caratterizzato da una linea melodica vocale alquanto strana. Arrivati alla traccia 6 si è soddisfatti al 101%: "Sing" resa più o meno celebre da "Trainspotting". Sei minuti di rara bellezza, sei minuti di pura psichedelia e di ipnotica ripetitività con le battute elementari del piano e della batteria e con un giro di basso vertiginoso! In poche parole è semplicemente da ascoltare ad occhi chiusi (basta fare attenzione al fischio finale causato dal feedback che potrebbe nuocervi i timpani...). Dopo questo trip ci pensa "There's No Other Way" a risvegliarvi col suo sound 80's. Cosi come le distorsioni potenti di "Fool" farebbero scatenare tutti, il rock bruttino di "Come Togheter" fa storcere il naso; e dopo il brit pop alquanto indifferente di "High Cool" tocca di nuovo alla psichedelia a prendere le redini dell' album con "Birthday" caratterizzata da una chitarra fluttuante con improvvise sgasate di distorsioni e da una voce trascinata e stanca stile ninna nanna... sembra una song uscita da "A Storm In Heaven" dei Verve soprattutto nel finale con la potente esplosione di suoni; l'esordio dei Blur si chiude in maniera soddisfacente con il rock di "Wear Me Down" cantato da una voce piuttosto cupa come in molte altre tracce; a chiudere un semplice ma efficace assolo distorto di Coxon su una ritmica di batteria forsennata.
Insomma da qui iniziò tutto, un album rock bello e senza pretese sì, ma non di certo originale... da qui in poi ci sarà ad ogni lavoro una evidente mutazione che raggiungerà il suo culmine negli ultimi due CAPOLAVORI della band "13" e "Think Thank"... ma questa è un' altra storia.
