Questo album è l'ultima testimonianza edita del genio musicale di Chuck Schuldiner, che lungo la sua carriera musicale ha lasciato un segno incisivo e indelebile nella storia del metal. Sciolti i Death, Evil Chuck è riuscito a dare vita a questo capolavoro, al quale stava già pensando ai tempi di Symbolic.
Ha voluto fondere quel Death Metal che possiamo definire progressivo degli ultimi album con l'Heavy classico col quale è cresciuto. Fondamentale di conseguenza il passaggio del microfono all'ottimo Tim Aymar, unica, meravigliosamente espressiva, voce heavy dell'album, che da sentimento ai testi, meno rabbiosi, molto più tristi e malinconici.
Musicalmente, quest' opera è senz'altro dominata dalla sezione ritmica: la tecnica sovraumana del batterista Richard Christy si fa sentire, non tanto sui veloci riff di doppia cassa, quanto sui breakdown ricchi di contrattempi mozzafiato; e poi DiGiorgio in questo album esprime al meglio le sue capacità e il suo suono: lo storico Frog Sound del suo fretless, alternato al dolce/violento fischio del suo Flanger.
Degno decisamente di nota il meraviglioso artwork del CD, che a mio parere è parte fondamentale dei lavori di Chuck fin da Human dei Death. In definitiva quindi una vera, propria e completa Opera d'Arte
