Non è un grande Album.. eppure mi ha lasciato dentro qualche cosa... probabilmente sono i miei ricordi di quegli anni lontani..
Made in Europe" mi colpì allora per la sua durezza... la voce bassa e calda di Coverdale... e quella alta di Hughes. Quel suo rock funk... che ti prende e ti fa scaldare.. ti agita gli animi... quel modo spregiudicato e arrogante... quasi musica per delinquere... colonna sonora di bande anni 70 (Vallanzasca e company).... in quella Milano di periferia... tra le nebbie invernali ascoltavo questo disco guardando fuori dalla finestra di casa...
Bella "Mistreated".... lenta.. calda... sensuale.. dura e grezza.. cosi come "Lady double dealer"... o la meravigliosa "Stormbringer"... con uno stupendo solo di Lord alle tastiere... musica che ti entra nelle vene... ti fa venire la voglia di spaccare di rompere tutto... o di stare in compagnia di donne calde e sole ....
I Deep Purple di quel periodo... partendo da "Burn"... poi "Stormbringer".. per finire con... "Come taste the Band"... e questo Live del 1976... hanno creato diversamente dalla formazione precedente un periodo di hard rock... molto influenzato dal funk e dal soul... e se da una parte la formazione con Gillan e Glover... aveva senza dubbio più smalto grinta e vitalità... e anche vero che questa nuova linea ammiccava sensualmente e riuscendo decisamente a quel suono caldo e fiammante che solo il soul e il funk sanno dare...

I DP di “Made in Europe” sono ormai nel gotha del rock, insomma ricchi e famosi, ma con la line-up mutata.
Ascoltare per credere la potenza e la tecnica spaventose della batteria di Paice in “You Fool No One”.
