Pearl Days non è il disco rock che ci si poteva aspettare sapendo che Elisa aveva diviso le canzoni più e meno forti fra questo e il precedente disco. Ci si poteva aspettare un cambio di rotta radicale, invece Elisa intendeva semplicemente tornare al pop-rock delle origini, certo con tutta la maturità e l'esperienza acquisite in questi anni. E così, nel tentativo di non lasciarsi andare troppo al pianoforte, Elisa decide di lavorare con un grande produttore, Glen Ballard (che già aveva collaborato, per esempio, con la Morissette). E il risultato finale è certo di grande qualità: abbandonata la inattesa aspettativa di non ritrovare in Pearl Days i "fiorellini acustici" tanto cari alla cantante di Monfalcone (che invece si fanno sentire fortemente, ad esempio, in In The Green), ci si può lasciare andare all'ascolto di queste undici (o dieci) piccole canzoni, cantate in maniera egregia.
Il pezzo di maggiore impatto è probabilmente Joy, brano dal refrain accattivante che sembra voler dare alle parole la valenza di un mantra ("L'amore è tutto quel che ci serve, una doccia di pura gioia"), ma non passano inosservate la title track, City Lights, Bitter Words, The Waves e la versione italiana di Life Goes On (presente, con un testo ancora più intenso e - nonostante il titolo - meno retorico, solo nella seconda edizione del disco).
Qui Elisa non ci sorprende con ulteriori metamorfosi, ma continua a meravigliarci con canzoni che lasciano il segno: Nove.

Elisa è Elisa, ha acquistato una maturità ed identità artistica tale da non permettermi più di paragonarla alla Morissette o a Björk.
Ascoltatela da soli nel buio della vostra stanza e al ritornello una lacrima scenderà di sicuro.

Ancora una volta la piccola cantante di Monfalcone è riuscita ad incantare ed ipnotizzare, mediante la voce suadente, testi poetici scritti con il cuore e la sua grande interpretazione.
Pearl Days è un vero e proprio inno alla vita, nonostante la difficile situazione internazionale.
