Innanzitutto volevo avvisare tutti coloro i quali cercano un minimo di originalità in quello che ascoltano che possono tranquillamente dimenticarsi il nome Hawthorne Heights e chiudere questa pagina web. Il quintetto canadese ( 3 chitarre, un bassista e un batterista ) ha racchiuso in questo CD d'esordio 11 tracce di buon Emo-Rock/Screamo Pop, che hanno il solo (valutate voi quanto grave) difetto di sembrare terribilmente già sentite, e di assomigliarsi tutte tra di loro. Questo perchè gli Hawthorne Heights adoperano sempre la stessa formula nello scrivere le canzoni, tant'è che è estremamente facile capire quand'è che attaccherà la prossima chitarra, o il prossimo "scream".
Tecnicamente parlando, gli Hawthorne Heights non sono malaccio. Sebbene la batteria e il basso non siano assolutamente niente di eccezionale, almeno le chitarre sono molto piacevoli, sia quando suonano "pulitissime" che quando distorte nei momenti più aggressivi del disco. A risollevare la media del gruppo ci pensa il cantante JT Woodruff, che se la cava egregiamente sia nell'urlato (anche se è vero che sembra un po' che stia vomitando) che (soprattutto) nel cantato normale. In sintesi: coloro che odiano la musica Emo, o le commercialate, si tengano alla larga da questo disco. Coloro che apprezzano il genere e non hanno esigenze particolari in quanto a originalità, dovrebbero dare almeno una chanche a questo CD, chissà che gli Hawthorne Heights non facciano breccia nel vostro cuore. . . in ogni caso dovreste prima passare per i Silverstein.
Se invece siete dei fan della nuova ondata Emo/Screamo, comprate questo disco ad ogni costo. Lo sentirete all'infinito e non vi stuferà mai, "Ohio Is For Lovers" diventerà con ogni probabilità la vostra nuova canzone preferita e verso il decimo ascolto, quando comincerete a notare il fatto che ci sono differenze anche tra le altre 10 canzoni, il vostro amore per il gruppo diventerà tale che sarete pronti anche per una ciofeca quale "If Only You Were Lonely" ( il loro album successivo uscito un paio di mesi fa ).
