Raffazzonano proprio per niente: questo è il loro disco più perfetto dal punto di vista del songwriting, stracolmo di canzoni meravigliose, ritornelli orecchiabili e riff epidermici. Sicuramente il suono è più pop e "commerciale" che nei precedenti lavori; è un male? No, se la musica ha la stessa sincerità e immediatezza che in passato; sincerità e immediatezza non sacrificate da una forma più rifinita e completa.
Conoscete gli Hüsker Dü per i loro dischi con la WarnerBros (Candy Apple Grey e Warehouse)? Flip Your Wig ha sonorità simili ma è dieci volte più immediato e trascinante, si ascolta con più gusto. Sia chiaro che io amo quei due album ma ogni volta FYW mi lascia basito: come hanno fatto quei tre a comporre in pochi mesi tante perle di orecchiabilità e perfezione?
La commovente "Green Eyes", l'imponente ed ipnotica "Find Me", "Divide & Conquer" che rende superflua l'intera carriera dei Bad Religion, le stupende melodie di "Makes No Sense At All", "Flip Your Wig" e "Flexible Flyer" lasciano tutte a bocca aperta; il resto è ugualmente sbalorditivo a parte, forse, un paio di brani.
Per concludere: un disco straconsigliato, il modo più facile per avvicinarsi alla musica degli Hüsker Dü e poter poi godere dei loro altri capolavori.
