Torna sul mercato una delle band AOR - Hard Rock più importanti della storia, i Journey, con questo ottimo "Revelations"!
Prima dell'uscita dell'album c'è stato un cambio di formazione: il cantante Jeff Scott Soto lascia la band a un solo anno dalla sua entrata, e viene sostituito dal cantante sconosciuto Arnel Pineda.
Il risultato è un album magnifico, con nessuna canzone sotto la media, e con ottime prestazioni di tutti i componenti.
Le canzoni dell'album si possono raggruppare in due categorie: pezzi di Hard Rock melodico e splendide ballads.
Tra i pezzi Hard Rock sono molto belle l'opener "Never Walk Away", che permette di comprendere subito il grande potenziale di Pineda, l'energica e solare "Change For The Better", ma soprattutto la sognante "Wildest Dream", che più di ogni altra mette in evidenza le qualità di ogni musicista, grazie ad un ottimo solo di chitarra di Neal Schon e un finale con tostissime rullate di batteria e scale vorticose di pianoforte.
Ma sono presenti anche sublimi ballads, come "Faith In The Heartland" (già presente su Generation), "After All These Years", scelta come singolo, "Like A Sunshower" (una di quelle classiche canzoni da ascoltare al tramonto...) e la commovente "Turn Down The World Tonight", migliore ballad dell'album che raggiunge picchi di emozione incredibili.
La migliore canzone dell'album è "The Journey (Revelation)", che non appartiene a nessuna delle citate categorie. La traccia consiste in un bellissimo assolo di chitarra di Schon, che alterna notevole virtuosismo e tecnica a varie emozioni: inquietudine, ma al contempo sicurezza, passando persino per la commozione...
Revelation contiene anche un secondo album, che però non recensisco perchè si tratta solo di un greatest hits realizzato per l'occasione.
Ricapitolando questo è un magnifico album, che non può che essere promosso a pieni voti, specialmente se si considera la veneranda età dei musicisti. Non penso che sia cosa da tutti i giorni sfornare un album come Revelation a 60 anni suonati...
