Nonostante questo album sia stato già precedentemente recensito su questo sito ho pensato di scrivere una mia recensione più dettagliata a riguardo.
I Priest del 1986 non sono immuni dal 'morbo' che ha investito un po tutte le bands di metal classico di quel periodo. Sembra, infatti, che il biennio 1985/1986 dominato da bands melodiche e commerciali come Motley Crue, Ratt, etc abbia spinto le bands di classic metal bands dell'epoca a cimentarsi in lavori più commerciali e leggeri, se paragonati ai loro precedenti albums. Lavori come 'Sacred Heart' (Dio), 'Russian Roulette' (Accept), 'Ultimate Sin'(Ozzy), 'Seventh Star' (Black Sabbath), 'Trilogy' (Malmsteen) sono tutti albums votati all'hair metal tanto in voga in quel periodo e 'Turbo' dei Judas Priest rientra perfettamente nella categoria.
La band decide, inoltre, di integrare il propio sound con l'utilizzo massiccio di sintetizzatori e suoni 'artificiali'; un po come fecero (anche se in maniera più convincente) gli Iron Maiden su 'Somewhere in Time'. 'Turbo' venne originariamente concepito come doppio album ma la Columbia bocciò il progetto e vennero scelte le songs più commerciali, mentre alcune delle restanti songs troveranno spazio sul disco successivo, 'Ram it Down'. L'aspetto commerciale non è nuovo per i Priest, già su alcuni albums passati la band aveva composto brani piuttosto commerciali e lo stesso 'Point of Entry' del 1981 è un album totalmente votato al metal più leggero e radiofonico. 'Turbo' non e' un brutto album, se si ha l'obiettività di considerarlo come un capitolo della lunga storia dei Priest che li ha visti sperimentare nel tentativo di evolversi e rimanere al passo coi tempi. Cosi come 'British Steel' era intriso di NWOBHM, 'Painkiller' di metal epico e 'Jugulator' di nu-metal cosi 'Turbo' riflette il periodo nel quale fu concepito.
La migliore track del disco è a mio avviso 'Reckless', il cui riff è 100% Priest e i solos melodici e ricercati. Tra l'altro questa song venne scelta come colonna sonora per il film 'Top Gun' ma la band decise di non concederla visto che all'epoca Tom Cruise era ancora un semi sconosciuto attore e l aband non voleva 'sputtanarsi' piu' di tanto. 'Out in the Cold' vanta un pregevole intro tastieristico e notevoli armonizzazioni, un altro ottimo brano. 'Turbo Lover' e 'Locked In', pur suonando come brani di bands come Bon Jovi o Ratt hanno comunque un buon groove e per chi ama l'hair metal sono sicuramente brani più che validi. 'Wild Nights, Hot & Crazy Days' è il brano piu' commerciale dell'album, una song che sembra uscire da "5150" dei Van Halen; personalmente la trovo un grande pezzo hair metal, niente che ricordi i vecchi Priest ma la qualità c'e' comunque. Il resto dei brani si adagia su standards un po fiacchi e monotoni, nulla che valga la pena di essere ricordato a parte qualche pregevole spunto in 'Hot for Love'. La band suona ottimamente, solos pregevolissimi, solita grandiosa prova di Halford ed una produzione tipicamente anni 80.
La versione rimasterizzata dell'album vanta una bonus track di buona fattura ('All Fired Up') e una versione live di 'Locked In'. L'album è tutt'ora il più venduto nella lunga discografia dei Priest e il tour che seguì l'album un successone (immortalato nel vhs e live album 'Priest... Live').

La meglio è la iniziale “Turbo Lover” ed è indirizzata più verso un hard rock ottantaniano che al metal.
Colpo basso per i Judas… veri metallari non lo comprate.
