Non so bene nemmeno io perchè mi sia venuto in mente di dissertare su un album, nella fattispecie un best, dei KC & The Sunshine Band.
Il gruppo nasce in Florida (Sunshine State = Sunshine Band) nel 1973 e poggia principalmente su due colonne portanti, Harry Wayne Casey, ribattezzatosi KC, e Richard Finch, co-autori in sostanza di tutti i loro successi. Va da sè che poi il collettivo multirazziale sarà aperto ad una decina di elementi.
Nel best in questione, che raccoglie 16 brani del periodo d'oro della disco music, cha va dal 1973 al 1980, della quale, a ragione, possono affermare di aver recitato un ruolo primario, sfilano in sequenza brani che all'epoca fecero ballare mezzo mondo e chi, come il sottoscritto, iniziò a muovere proprio in quel periodo, i primi passi in discoteca non può non ricordare: That's The Way I Like It, Shake Your Booty, Keep It Comin' Love, Get Down Tonight, I'm Your Boogie Man, I Like To Do It, Boogie Shoes. Non a caso quest'ultimo brano fu inserito, e inevitabilmente reso celebre, in un film must del filone disco, La Febbre Del Sabato Sera. Un trash? Può darsi.
Sono brani famosissimi che tutti almeno una volta hanno ascoltato: alla radio, in qualche spot pubblicitario, in qualche serata revival oppure da qualche attempato amico rimasto legato a quel leggendario periodo da Studio 54 e alzi la mano chi non ha provato la voglia di lanciarsi sul dancefloor.
Funky solare di discreta fattura per una buona metà dei brani, che oggi a quasi trent'anni di distanza si lasciano ascoltare ancora volentieri, mentre il resto del programma viaggia su livelli non proprio da best. Gruppo essenzialmente da singoli non vanta album da tramandare ai posteri, quindi una raccolta, come questa può risultare abbastanza esaustiva per conoscere in maniera ottimale il pianeta KC & The Sunshine Band.
Chi obiettava a KC che le sue liriche fossere alquanto ripetitive e monotone, lui amava rispondere che in questo modo la gente si sarebbe ricordata benissimo il titolo del brano che aveva ascoltato e avrebbe evidentemente favorito la loro commercializzazione. Oggi si direbbe che sono tormentoni, ma come dargli torto ?
Non so bene perchè mi sia venuto in mente di parlare di questo disco. Ah, si ! Ora ricordo. L'ho pagato 5 euro. Sarà che il rapporto qualità prezzo per una volta non mi ha deluso ?
