Recensire questo disco è come pretendere di dare un opinione su un’ emozione, per alcuni la musica è solo musica, ma ci sono alcune composizioni che non possono essere ridotte a intrattenimento, e Welcome to Sky Valley è la sintesi di emozioni oniriche, contornate dal blues, quel blues che è nato da uomini che avevano dei demoni dentro di loro, che lottano col proprio cuore, per esprimere ciò che proviamo , per esprimere ciò che viviamo su questo pianeta chiamato terra, tra vallate desertiche e cieli, contrasti naturali che però viviamo come metafore anche nelle nostre città , nelle nostre case e vite. I Kyuss con distorsioni valvolari, con atteggiamenti musicali ben influenzati dagli anni 70, e con uno sguardo al futuro, hanno immortalato un viaggio a volte allucinato, a volte veloce e scardinato, a volte romantico e suggestivo , un viaggio che ognuno di noi vive prima o poi.
Della storia e delle storielle che circondano i Kyuss e i nuovi sopravvissuti non ne abbiamo bisogno, quello che resta è la musica, l’ intenzione, e in Welcome to Sky Valley ce ne è molta. La bellezza di questo disco sta anche nel fatto che si attraversano vari momenti, dall’ apertura soffocante e colma di suono di Gardenia , all’ acustica Space Cadet, fino al riffone di Whitewater. Bisogna solo ascoltare il disco e lasciarsi andare…

Questo 'Sky Valley' è il migliore fra i loro dischi, compreso 'Blues for the Red Sun'.
Invito chi non l'abbia ancora fatto ad ascoltare questo album e a fare altrettanto con il resto della loro discografia.
