Nel 2004 i Machine Head hanno rilasciato il disco "Through The Ashes Of Empire", ma sembra di essere tornati a dieci anni fa, quando uscì il mitico "Burn My Eyes", la migliore espressione del post-thrash di inizio anni 90.
Dopo le deludenti prove di "The Burning Red" e "Supercharger" dove il gruppo si era fatto ammaliare dal sound creato dai Korn, Deftones ecc.., hanno finalmente capito che il nu-metal è meglio lasciarlo fare a chi lo sa suonare (ovvero i nomi citati prima), e il risultato di questo ovvio ragionamento non è niente male, anzi è ottimo !
Già dall'iniziale "Imperium" abbiamo il sound sporco e "heavy" che riprende il modello Slayeriano e dei primi Metallica (questi ultimi influenzano molto le parti di batteria), e via via per tutto il disco che mi ha soddisfatto moltissimo ! Tra i migliori episodi dell'album abbiamo "Alls Falls Down", "Bite The Bullet" e "Left unifisched" (anche se quest'ultima ha ancora dei rimasugli di nu e un piacievole andamento quasi punk). Diversa dal resto dell'album è la conclusiva "Descend The Shades Of Night" che riprende un pò quelle influenze alternative (Nirvana, Alice In Chains ecc..) che avevano caratterizzato anche il secondo album "The More Things Change", ma che non dispacciono affatto !
Finalmente dopo le delusione dei Metallica (più lo sento più odio "St. Anger") e di altri gruppi thrash, i Machine Head, che insieme ai Pantera e ai Korn (e qui verrò criticato moltissimo) hanno salvato l'andazzo che il metal stava prendendo nei 90, basti pensare ai due album dei (mitici) Maiden con Blaze Bayley e al voltafaccia dei Metallica ("Load" e "Reload", e in parte il "Black Album"), sono tornati alla grande.
Per me i Machine Head del 2004 sono in forma e spero che continuino così.
