Codeine è un trio slowcore nato a New York nel 1989: Stephen Immerwahr (voce, basso), John Engle (chitarra) e Chris Brokaw (batteria); in seguito si aggiungono David Grubbs (chitarra) e Doug Scharin (batteria). Pubblicano su Sub Pop Frigid Stars (1990), l’EP Barely Real e The White Birch (1994), diventando riferimento per lo slowcore, con forti echi post‑rock. Si riuniscono nel 2012 e tornano in attività con uscite d’archivio dal 2022.
