Poesia che parla. Versi che ci fissano.
Non si è mai goduto così nel cospargersi di malinconia. Il testamento più sincero di Ian si trova qui. "Ceremony" è il suo ultimo testo, dove ci sbatte davanti la verità più triste. Versi che ci fissano. ci guardano.
Nel marzo del 1981 il tiepido grigiore invernale inglese, profumato di new wave, sente la mancanza di Curtis. Ci ha lasciato nel modo più triviale. Hook, Sumner e Morris danno vita al nuovo percorso, al nuovo "servizio". Bernard entra timidamente nel ruolo di cantante, mentre tutto intorno è ingiustamente così cieco e indifferente a una persona che non c'è più. In "Ceremony" vi è il disegno di un'anima e di tutto ciò che, forse troppo rapidamente, ha compreso in vita.
Il vero testamento di Curtis colpisce sfacciatamente dritto al nostro cuore, e imprigiona la nostra mesta mente. Un fantasma sembra accarezzarci, sfiorarci, quasi rassicurarci.
Anche l'uomo che respira la solitudine più pura manca a qualcuno, lascia qualcosa. Una nube malinconica aggredisce il candore sacro che spicca con quella gemma.
Voltando il 45 giri troviamo In A Lonely Place", preghiera per le anime viandanti. Un canto gregoriano avanza nelle lande gelide del synth. Dalla nevrosi consapevole della gabbia in cui si vive mista a paura si passa alla stasi rassegnata. C'è un cammino da intraprendere, come ci sussurra la timida voce di Bernard, inebriato dallo squarcio di luce nelle nubi più dense.
