E chi lo avrebbe detto?
Il settimo album dopo "Republic" che era uscito nel 1993 e già sembrava un reunion.
Di solito queste cose non funzionano, e vengono fatte solo per soldi. "Get Ready" invece è incredibile.
"Crystal" presenta i New Order nel loro aspetto migliore, una chitarra che sembra suonata da Johnny Marr, socio di Barney nel side-project Electronic, ma che qui non c'è ed il basso di Peter Hook che come sempre suona le melodie di tre note sulle corde alte e poi ancora chitarre distorte che contrappuntano un piano "...keep it coming". La canzone si ferma e riparte col vento in faccia.
In "Turn my Way" canta Billy Corgan: "I drank in every bar in town/I filled my cup when I was down/I saw the things I wanted to see/Became the man I wanted to be/But then somehow I lost my way/I've got to get back there today" ed ancora "I don't wanna be like other people are/Don't wanna own a key, don't wanna wash my car/Don't wanna have to work like other people do/I want it to be free, I want it to be true" (con echi di Ian Curtis nelle ultime parole "I thought that I was right, I thought that I was right..."), è questa la poesia dei "New Order".
I loro versi valgono almeno come la musica, spesso più della musica. Ti parlano direttamente e non ti lasciamo più nemmeno dopo anni.
"Primitive Notion" sembra una canzone dei Joy Division o almeno dei primi New Order di "Movement".
"Vicious Streak" sembra scritta invece per gli Electronic.
In "Rock the Shack" canta Bobby Gillespie, che rende il favore della partecipazione di Barney in "XTRMNTR" dei Primal Scream dove in "Shoot Speed Kill Light" Barney suonava una chitarra distorta degna di Steve Albini.
Chiude il disco "Run Wild", lenta ballata dove ricompare l'armonica di "Your Silent Face": si citano da soli. Canzone apparentemente leggera musicalmente ma con un testo che ti viene a cercare la notte fonda, quando sei solo, fra profondità ed ironia amara, il marchio di fabbrica dei New Order: "I'm not cruel/And you're not evil/And we're not like/All those stupid people/Who can't decide/Which book to read/Unless the paper/Shows deceit/You're the kind of person/That I've always wanted to be with/Well you're really cool/And you always say the right things to me/But now I'll tell you something/From my heart beats for you deep inside/But never be a burden/And my love for you will never die, never die, never die, never die, never die/But if Jesus comes to take your hand/I won't let go, I won't let go".
Nessuno meglio di loro riesce a descrivere la vita. Delle cose semplici.
