Silk & Soul contiene dei famosissimi standard, come The Look Of Love (resa celebre dalla Springfield lo stesso anno e presente nella solonna sonora di Casino Royale) e I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free (inno dei diritti civili cui la performer ha dato rilevanza negli anni).
Scritta di pugno dalla Simone è invece l'ultima traccia Consummation, disperata e desiderosa d'amore. Un disco che incoraggia l'ascoltatore a non lasciarsi affondare dagli insulti e dalle disgrazie di ogni tipo, ma anche contenente una certa riflessione sulla solitudine di chi sembra circondato soltanto da ombre.
Go To Hell venne persino presentata ai Grammy, pur non vincendo alcun premio. Meritano elogio gli arrangiamenti di Sammy Lowe e del bassista Gene Taylor.
Nonostante divorzi e bipolarismo, la carriera della donna dal falso cognome era alle stelle. La carriera non è purtroppo quella che porti sulle spalle quando torni a casa dai tuoi figli.
